Ok, I get a very important e-mail, and along with it, I get a form that I need to print out, sign, and then fax/scan or mail it back.

It's in Wordpad format, but evertime I try to open it with my Wordpad program, I get a message 'WordPad has caused an error in MSWRD832.CNV

Apparantly, I don't have the newest version of Wordpad or something. Is there any work-around? If I find somebody (hint... hint...) that could take that file and be able to open it, could they convert it to another format, so I would be able to use it, or open it with another program?

I'd hate to have to go out and buy the new version of Wordpad (unless it's free somewhere?), just for this one time use that I will need it for.

Hmm... I thought Wordpad didn't have an own text format. Doesn't it just use txt, rtf or doc file formats? Try to open it in Word and see what happens.

The file is in .doc format. So I guess that's Microsoft Word, and not wordpad, oops. I can't find Microsoft Word on my computer, so I guess I need to buy that, huh? Wordpad won't open this file, even though it's in .doc format. I read on a Microsoft help site that wordpad will only open up .doc files that were made in Word 6.0

Right click the file and click "Open With" and then choose Notepad to open it with.

Two things can happen by doing this:
1. You will see the contents of the file including all the text, with a few jumbled characters.
or
2. Your file will not open meaning that it may be corrupt.

Those are possibilities, not absolutes.

Thanks for the help, everyone! Hurricane's link worked perfectly.

Jeratin, yeah, I tried it with notepad and got a whole bunch of garbled symbols and words.
