Wouldn't it be kind of cool to have workers build walls outside of cites to block things off from the AI. Huh???

What do you think forteress are?:crazyeye:

Lets think about this. Say we build a wall 6 spaces in diameter in a large map. Since one of these squares has a width of 250 km, we would have a 1500 km long wall. Though the great wall is longer than that, it took 1000 years to build. Say your wall is 12 spaces long, thats 3000 km. Now we are getting a little rediculous. Unless each wall segment cost a rediculuous amount of shields, or workers took 50 turns to build it, its not realistic at all. Just build a series of fortresses.

I agree with newfangle, but...it WOULD be cool (and practical) to be able to build such walls in a scenario where the map scale has been reduced drastically to represent a small land mass :goodjob:

Actually, according to the game, each tile is only 100 square miles(10x10). Probably an oversight on their part, but I got this from the f11 screen. built my first city and went to f11 just to see how far behind i was. the city occupied 9 tiles and my land size was 900.

I think it would be great if workers could build walls. The historical precedents for this would be Hardian's wall, the Anonine wall and the Great wall of China (which doesn't make sense right now being located in a city).

They could act like a road for defending troops and have fortresses spaced along them where defenders would be housed. The Romans did this when defending against the Scottish. They were eventually overwhelmed but it worked for a long time.

I posted a thread on this a few months ago... Let me see if I can find the URL now...

How about if workers build fortresses that are only 1 or 2 squares apart then the in between squares provide a wall-like function (say a 50% defensive bonus) as they are connected with a 'Hadrain's Wall' type of defence. (Which also counts as a road aswell.)
