What exactly does one do when working with or creating a MIDI sequence file? Is there a special program that helps you do that? Is it possible to create a MIDI sound/musical/sequence file from scratch? And a bunch of other questions that I'll post when I remember them. (IF i remember them... )

IT COSTS MONEY!?

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! :aargh:

:joke:

But really, I dislike payware. I prefer freeware (i'm not real comfy with sending money over the internet--there's always those [expletive deleted] spywares.)

Most cost around $150, and you have keyboard link-up ones and musical-note ones. You can get free MIDI-converters for FREE off of www.download.com

There are free midi programs around if you look hard enough - from simple converters to full programs to write midi sequences try looking on www.kvr-vst.com for a few (look under quick host links).

There is a mag on sale in Uk & Europe (and USA/Canada as well I think) called Computer Music - each month it has a cd on the cover which features a program called Computer Muzys which is a free midid/audio sequencing program, the cd also has some free instruments to use with the program as well.

For payware the cheapest decent programs are Cubasis and Tracktion (for PC) and Garageband for MAC (all at about £50 here). Plus you can download demos of the major packages in use (Cubase, Reason, Sonar ,Logic , Abelton Live) which are free to download and maybe useable for a short time.

I found some half-decent free ones on www.download.com just search midi converters.

I just found a nice wav to midi converter, it not great, but it works okay.

Now, I'm looking for midi to wav converters, and something to use to make midi's from scratch, and to edit existing ones.

(Thanks lozzy :) I tried download.com, but they were all demo's and trials and had price tags [pissed] )
