I have made a 100X100 map of Europe that I think match your description. It has the following civs: Rome, Greece, France, England, Russia, Germans, Spain and the Vikings. I think it's a pretty interesting scenario, but I think about expanding it with Babylon, Egypt, Austrians and Ottomans (maybe Carthage and Arab/Persia).
