Have you ever had a world war in any of your games? How often?

This is my first world war ever, with 7 civilizations remaining in the game (originally 15). It is me, Albion and Estalia vs the Dwarves and Telia. The other two civilizations are neatral so far. Hmm, I wonder what's going to happen?! (I'm playing Warhammer 2.02 mod).

Has any of you experienced a world war before?

Four on two now with one neatral country. :crazyeye:

In almost all of my games, after the initial settlement period, it turns into a constant WW untill the end.

Why? I take over a country early on with swords, doubling my land mass. The AI realizes its conquer or be conquered, and we all go at it. Unfortunatly, I rarely get two different alliances against eachother.

I think the best world war I've seen in my games was my exploratory game of Conquests. I was playing as France so I could focus on the new (PTW and C3C) buildings and terrain improvements. On the other continent, small Korea invaded biiiiiig India. India brought in China, Mongolia, and Scandinavia. The only other nation was myself. Korea was communist. The Asian civs were all fascist. Scandinavia and myself were Democracies. While I was "neutral" in the war, I sunk Viking transports heading for Korea with my privateers. I also keep Korea supplied with discounted techs, luxuries, and resources. Korea lost two cities, but regained them. I saw the war go from knights to infantry. The war was stopped when I built the UN and won the vote...

(England and Germany were in the game, but they kept sneak-attacking me. After six wars with those jokers, I conquered `em both.

Usually after someone nukes someone else there will be a world war, on higher levels I like to get everybody fighting and I'll stay at peace with them and watch them destroy each other.. then I make my move :)

I typically have a world war in my games. When the AI sneak-attacks, one of the first things I do is negotiate deals for an alliance against the aggressor. For a civ that's less advanced than me, usually giving them a tech or two will buy their allegiance. For others, I may put myself in gpt debt if I think they could be militarily useful.
Sometimes my AI allies are helpful, sometimes they're not. But in all cases, they help to distract the aggressor AI while I'm gearing up for war.

How often? Every game. Sooner or later, every game I play ends up in a world war, which usually degenerates into a dogpile on one player. In my most recent game, in spite of my best efforts, I was at the bottom of the dogpile. It cost me a lot of gold to get out from under that pile, but I'm making them pay now!

Same here, almost every game has at least one world war, sometimes two. Sometimes I start them (by buying a bunch of allies into MAs vs my nemesis) and sometimes the AI ends up in a world war all on their own - not always dragging me into it (which is nice cuz then I can make opportunistic raids on weak neighbors).

The A.I. almost always seems to wind up in a world war in the Industrial era. Sometimes I join in for a while (often somebody declaring war on me causes them to start), but I generally prefer to concentrate on research and fight only short wars at this time. Sometimes the A.I. seems to be in almost constant world war mode after discovery of nationalism.

I usually enter world wars at the end of the ancient era, when there is no more land to settle. The big civs demand tribute and some of us just don't like to pay up...also, the same think seems to happen in the industrial era. The game I am in now, all 18 other civs declared war on me within the span of 6 turns. It was a good thing they were fighting each other beforehand or I would have been in for a bit of a tossle. As it stands, I have decided to take them all on and am slowly dissolving away the borders around me while simultaneouly conducting an assault on the other continent...fun, fun, fun!!!

always. world wars are part of my strategy. as soon as im strong enough to make an attempt for a conquest victory, i try to bribe other civs into declaring war against each other. this keeps them all busy fighting each other and weakens them for my eventual take-over :D

World War?
Yup. Me vs them :p

Other than that, no

Yeah, I'd have to say the same. Especially if I get nukes. Then it's world war III.... Me against them. Although, I did declare war on Aztecs in the same game and everyone went at it for a while. But it wasn't until the nukes hit did they all turn on me.

World War? Yep, from the beginning. Me vs. World.

Wow, it seems that people get world wars often. They are more interesting than 1v1v1v1v1v1 wars. (Like real life.)

In my games, I'm the most common cause of world wars. Sometimes, it's because some rival possesses a resource I need (for example, an oil on a two-city island with my empire situated between it and its owner's empire). Other times, the rival starts the war for its own stupid reasons. Either way, I make extensive use of alliances and MPPs. If it occurs before most nations know nationalism, then I simply ally with the civ best positioned to intercede against the enemy, and just let the two of them fight it out (the AI never cottons on to this tactic). If in the age of the grand alliance, I designate the rival as the world's rogue state and pull out all the stops to ensure that a 7v1 (or whatever) alliance forms immediately. I then sit back and watch it work its magic. Often, this has benefits long after I sign a quick peace with the rival in question, because the AIs all radicalise and continue the world war, ignoring the fact that I am sitting it out. :mischief: This policy works especially well in diplomatic and cultural attempts at victory, because it quickly earns me many friends and doesn't require much military support. It works up to Emperor-- I've never been brave (or powerful) enough to try it on Deity.

I don't understand the difference???
If every country is involved in a war, I would call that a world war, whether they are all against one or with scattered alliances.

Well, a world war is when most of the countries of the world participate in one single war. Mostly containing two sides.

That's why when they have those wars between different countries (England vs France, and maybe another country vs another country, etc), they didn't call them a world war. That's what I think.

And that's why we had 2 world wars, because all the countries fought in the same single war.

When it is 1v1v1v1v1....oops, my mistake. Sorry.

I meant to say a world war is better than 1v1, 1v1, 1v1, and 1v1. Not 1v1v1v1v1v1. My mistake.

Now I play at Monarch and I had a war (almost) entire continent vs me in the Ancient Era. I play as Japanese and at the end of the expansion phase Arabs declared war and then paid a few other civs to join them. I had no Iron but it was the same with Arabs and two other nearby civs (plus they also hadn't Horses). Fortunately, my border was rather short so it was easy to kill attackers with my Horsemen (in the early Middle Ages I had MGL-rushed Forbidden Palace and Pentagon and three 17-19 HP Horsemen armies!). Moreover, I invaded my closest neighbour, France so at some time I was at war with everyone I knew.

This war was VERY long and ended when I conquered whole France, almost entire Arabia (with their Hanging Gardens and The Art of War, now they have one crappy town In The Middle of Nowhere) and made peace with all others, then I conquered Ottomans and still have no Iron! Fortunately, I managed to buy some from Carthage and build some Samurai but at this time I don't need it (Cavalry rules!). Now I own also some part of Carthage (taken from Persia, Hannibal is my ally), changed govt. to Republic, I am the greatest Civ and prepare to grab Russian Iron ;)

BTW: it is my first successful Monarch game because I was a wonder-addict before and it was a real handicap.

Best regards,

Slawomir Stachniewicz.

World wars are need and by the Modern age i start something I call the dirty war aka nuclear war.
