worst leader nowdays .... probably Kim Jong-Il. running an insulated totalitarian regime is obsolete nowdays (though there are still folks who are turned on by totalitarianism), as all it ends up doing is to turn you into a small local gangster whom the rest of the neighbours despise. for a small country like North Korea, that is plainly self-destructive to the max. even a large country nowdays cannot go on w/o maintaining extensive outside contact.

Francisco Solano López.

Stalin and Hitler had me tied.

You do have to consider that Mohammad was just a religious leader, and not a king or anything.

Also (Ok, this is really Chirstian) Chamberlain isn't burning in Hell (most likely), but I'm sure Elizabeth II is, and 'Bloody' Mary, and maybe even Warren Harding. ;)

Stalin and Caligula.

;) And Ceausescu but he's not on the list. And his actions can't really be compared with Stalin's or Caligula's.

How can hitler be on this list. He was a great, but evil leader. He turned a country with no military into a super power.

Thaey're all kinda crappy, even the monkey.

No. Hitler had done only a few things which went good. The capture of Eben- Emael is one of them. However most others you will credit him is done by the works of others. He could dissolve Versailles because of Rathenau and Stresemann, he could lead the war at first because of Guderian, Manstein and others. Look what happened when he took the lead! No, he sucked in nearly all ways. Or do you believe murdering the Jews was a great deed? Murdering his own population is one of the worst things a ruler can do.

Built up thanks to Hans von Seekt's decision to keep the officer-corps intact after Versailles, which allowed for the rapid expansion of the army. (Grunts can be trained in months, good officers take years to educate.)

Paid for entirely on credit through the fiscal manipulations of Hjalmar Schacht. (Go to war or face your creditors.)

And, focusing simply on Germany itself, garnering it not just total military defeat, dirt-poor, occupied and divided, its cities reduced to rubble, but such a massive culpability for inhuman behavior, it made "German" next to synonymous "monster" in the eyes of other nations.

The last bit next to killed the most culturally and scientifically interesting and vibrant nation in Europe. Germans have been cowering ever since.

Germany never got really back into stride efter the Nazis. Hitler was the greatest German national disaster ever. Anything would have been better.

Way to go Hitler!

Worst as in destroying the regime they have control over? Mugabe, Jong Il, Pol Pot are my picks.

Louis XVI tried to be everybody's lap dog and let the revolutionaries destroy the nation and rebuild it from the ground up in a reign of terror.

People are complaining? Well, just give in to the emmissaries of the people and let them purge their opponents. They will kill all your supporters and a whole bunch of other people you don't care about, but maybe they will just send you to exile because you were nice to them. That is a bad leader.

Louis gave in like a Chamberlain to Napoleon's Churchill.

There was one helluva difference between Jacobinians and Girondists, for instance, you know.

If Louis had had the guts to stick it out, and not attempt to escape to the foreign coalition converging on France, then perhaps he could have saved a constitutional monarchy, and never given the likes of Robespierre the chance of declaring a national emergency and start beheading the political opposition.

There were revolutionaries and revolutionaries involved. If the king at least had behaved loyal to France, people like Lafayette would have stuck by him.

And Napoleon had absolutely nothing to do with it. He was mostly scheming in Corsica, intent on a carreer as a Corsican general when these things were decided.

Couldn't put him in, although he's a bad president, I don't think he stands out enough to rate along side the others, but he certainly is worthy of an other vote :)
Well it depends really on what you mean by 'bad'. If you mean evil or nasty ro wahtever, then he doesn't rank with Hitler or Stalin or whoever. But if you mean bad in terms of policies and descions, he has to be right up their, Afghanistan and Iraq have been disasters, 99% of the world hates him, he's really jepordised the US's relationship with Europe, his lack of movement on greenhosue gasses is speeding up the end of humanity, he messed up real bad on New Orleans, his economic policy has been terriable, the US military is really strechted, the gap between rich and poor is growing wider......I really can't thin of anhything he has done well.

Hitler got his country completely ruined though...so I guess he beats George there.

I heard about that! I was never sure whether this is a legend or not. :D Fortunately I wasn't around on his time.
  I didn't know that. What was the dog's name ?
Corbu.

My understanding is that Ceausescu received it from a British union leader and subsequently gave the dog its own security detail, motorcade, luxury villa, and promotion in the Romanian army to Colonel.
