Here I mean by groups that seek to re-unite very divergent ethnic/linguistic groups on the bases of a common ethnic/lingustic heritage, often in the distance past and with a lot of romanticism involved. So no garden variety irredentism here (e.g. "Greater" Romania, Serbia, Italy, Somalia, etc.).

What's do you think is the most far-fetched and unrealistic of these movements?

Pan-Turkism?

Slight change of criterion. I'm going to movements that seek to unify people that although speaking a single language, or being part of a single ethnic group or practism a single religion, are on different continents.

Pan-anglicism is my name of the idea of the "anglosphere".

Why? I'd say Pan-Anglicism is more sensible than, for instances, Pan-Africanism. The major English-speaking countries have more in common with each other than, say, Nigeria and South Africa, despite being on different continents.

You can't really get any worse than language nationalism over a grouping that doesn't actually exist. Pan-Turanism.

Pan-Africanism... those people think they can unify a continent when people within their existing countries are slaughtering each other by the millions.

Pan-Slavism because of a very inspiring tread on this forum.

Hmm...

Now, that I think about it, why isn't Pan-Europeanism an option? :mischief:

Um... yes... that was my point, actually. If (some) Europeans are capable of something similar to a semblance of unity, then who's to say Africans can't achieve something similar several decades into the future.

As I understand it, the original point was that people were killing each other within the borders of states, not in wars between states.

Aside from the non-existent Pan-Turanism, Pan-Celticism is the worst. To me, Braveheart aside, if you put an Irishmen, a Scot, a Welshmen, a Breton, a Cornish and a Mann in the same pub, the Scot and the Irish would be punching each other, a Frenchmen would chain the Breton and lug it back to France, nobody can understand what the Welshmen is saying and no one can understand why a Mann is there.

Then they will all stop, a laugh at the Cornish for being called Cornish.

Worst. Nationalist Movement. Ever.

Pan-europeanism. From list pan-turanism or pan-slavism.
