Worst Starting locating thread

The settings/seed of choxorn's bad start.

Barbarians: ROAMING.

Climate: NORMAL.

LandForm: CONTINENTS.

Map Size: STANDARD.

Ocean Coverage: 70%.

Temperature: TEMPERATE.

World Age: 4 BILLION YEARS.

World seed: 12608220

And HERE is a PTW save, as Gandhi.

Somebody tell me how it turns out! ;)
P.S.
In case you're curious, the other seven civs in the game I played were:
Carthage, Rome, Greece, England, Spain, France, and Germany.

Also I am absolutely sure that I have a start, playing as the Byzantines, where I am surrounded by about 3 grassland (non-BG) tiles, and the rest is a huge island of Tundra, with no resources (well I think I spotted one Game resource). There are more grasslands at the east, but the island is shaped like this /\ and they are at the bottom of the \ part, while the start is at the bottom of the / part, so there are quite a number of turns to get there!

Ouch! do you have a screenie? That one definately beats mine by quite a bit!

I think I have a save, so I can take a screenshot, somewhere in a CD where I needed to save my data when my computer was about to crash (serious crash, I mean, no Windows, no files left, so I was quite scared and saved every document somewhere). It was one of my early games on Conquests, and I rembember choosing a high difficulty. I'll try to get to that save...

I played the PTW save (it was against Rome, Iroquois, France, Arabia, Germany, Russia, Aztecs) and at about 1AD I am tech leader, with equal sized land as Germany and Russia, but less than everyone else. I have the GL, so the continents can contact each other.

@choxorn, the key to an isolated start is send out galleys as much as possible until you find everyone else. Its a lot easier to do this in PTW than Conquests.

I am inexperienced in the field of "suicide galleys." But next time I get an island start, I'll try it.
P.S. Could you show me what the world looks like right now in your game?

Sorry, but i never saved the game since i was confident i could win from my position. No screen's either. And i started another PTW game so the auto saves are gone. But i do have some lovely autosaves of this month's GOTM.

Sorry for the hijack, just posting an update on choxorn's game:

As you may know, the game azzaman333 compiled from the seed was at monarch diffeculty, at warlord, things would be even more in my favour. ;)

Considdering you are India, and the one thing about the India UU is that it needs no resources... Not that I could have made good use of this feature. I managed to get my way up to cavs by the time I was able to roll out some of those fants. I traded theolegy to france for 3 lux and horses, the only thing I did with fants was taking a single roman desert-isle-city with salpether.

And I had some bad luck with SS galleys, but when I finally managed to land on a safe spot, I had contact with 3 civs at the same turn, becouse a border and 2 galleys of differend civs where in my view. :D

Here is the situation in 1305 AD, I'm aiming for domination.

As you can see, I utterly failed to properly plan the RR face.:wallbash: I also build some temples in places where they are not needed, juts becouse I wanted to expand the border of some far away towns into the sea. (for looks)

Other than that, I think I'm doing ok.

:goodjob: Cool! I guess I underestimated what I could do with that island (of course, I didn't ICS).

deja vu! That's the only thing I did with elephants!

I notice that in 1305 AD, the Iroqouis and Russians have both been conquered.
I see that the Iro are not completely gone by 1080 AD, but when did the Russians get it?

The russians where gone very very very early. The msg they where destroyed popped up when I was still only halfway through the AA.

The Iroqouis where destroyed by yours truly! :D They had about the land area You see painted in my color. (but with less and wider spaced cities of course)

As of 1550, I took the entire romeo-france continent, and the Astec took more than half of Arabia, they only have the smallish island to the south left.
All civs are in IA now, I'm building up to take on the Astec at the moment (I wanted to do germany first, but the Astec sneak attacked me with a landing on my home Island, so now they are going down first)

I kind of underestimated the france, they quickly gained on my techlead and got cavs and rifleman, so they cost me more turns and losses than I wanted it to. Ah well...

An other update will come an other day.

Here's a really bad starting location. This map was made by Madviking for our Underground Games Game of the Month.

Ouch! A four-Tile island! 3 tiles are mountains! You'll have to settle on the hill! And that's bad, because even after the borders expand, that city can't grow above size 4.

From what I can see, it's not an island but a pennisula. And it could grow way past size 4 with a harbor.

Well, an island or a penninsula, AlCosta? And BTW, I meant without the help of city improvements.
