After 500 AD, my domination was pretty straightforward.

620 AD, finished CS, starting to build maces. Also started to promote my better axemen.

740 AD, finished construction, starting to build cats

1060 AD: DOW Brennus

1110 AD: DOW Hannibal to finish him off

1240 AD: DOW Augustus

1400 AD: finished Astronomy

1510 AD: DOW Vicky. I ended up capturing 4 of her cities to put me over the limit.

1535 AD: finished

In hindsight, I wasted too much time declaring on Brennus. During the period leading to my Brennus war I was building courthouses and upgrading units. However, I could have attacked sooner. I was too cautious, built too big of a stack.

All in all, an enjoyable GOTM. Obviously an easy level, but the maze map and low commerce start made for a nice domination challenge. Thanks!

I agree with The-Hawk, a fun map and overall game. As I mentioned in the 1st spoiler thread, my goal was space and by 500AD (after rushing Hannibal) I was slowly taking Brennus' land (he was out 940AD). Doesn't everyone love to hate those guys?

Too bad that Hatty is one of my soft points... :mischief: It is so hard to me to declare on that innocent, friendly queen... Or at it least that must be the reason I took so long to take over her lands (1340/1530AD), but without (including a nice corner spot for the IW city) them my space victory would've taken even longer than it took - 1828AD.

I guess my 2019AD finish was not the fastest domination then.....

At least I got a win! I think this is only my 2nd or 3rd GOTM victory.

That map was pretty weird though.

Ahh, the days when I had time to write these in any detail are gone ... (LC must be happy about that ...)

Basically a simple march around the maze, conquering as I went ... with galley/galleon ferrys to move troops to the front. Goal was diplo with a lot of land and pop, for some points in both speed and score ranks.

Conquered all but Wash and England ... the latter being my good friend (+14) after some shared wars that she never fought in! :D

Hannibal has settled some city way off in the boondocks, so I gifted UN to him.

Diplo 1896, 5959 base (hmm ... another cow in my future?) and 31,389 final.

dV

I proved that you shouldn't play Civ if you don't have the time for it

I went for Space, but I only easily conquered Hatty's 4 cities (2 good ones, 1 medium city and a very poor city I should have razed :() with Maces and Cats, against her Archers and Axes.
But instead of going after Hannibal as well, and probably also after Brennus, I stopped after Hatty had been destroyed, and laid back to develop my few cities.

I only DOWed on someone else very late, with Artillery, to get Aluminium ...

So, after all, I landed on Alpha Centauri in 1944AD, with a final score of 10166. Maybe, this gives me my first award ... even if it's only a blue Shield  :(

I marched around the maze, but whilst hitting rome the game crashed, possibly because I was lazy and didnt use boats and had huge logistical trains following the maze.

I went for Conquest since I thought maybe noone else could be bothered :P, and decided to go round the maze instead of skipping across to Hannibal, so took Hatty, Hannibal, Brennus, Caesar. I wasn't sure if you had to wipe everyone out to win a conquest or could vassalise them, so I ended up wiping everyone out. This took a while because I didn't want to keep a lot of cities, so other civs ended up resettling the lands.
I eventually got over to the other continent with transports full of modern armour, and finished off the slaughter in 1949. First conquest and noble win, the firsts have been coming quickly in the last few months :P

Well... lost my notes, but anyways...

Thought the map was really good fun, and wanted to explore some new (for me) options, having not played much Warlords (or BTS), so decided at some point to just play it out and scrape together as much points as I could.

Met up with the english and americans, and just conquered and vassalized them first. (Not knowing there was no way easy way to de-vassalize them, ofcourse :)). Skipped Hatty (she's kinda sweet anyways, right? :)) and took out the others trying to avoid going over the domination limit and playing to the end. In the end I had to take out a few of Hatty's cities as well since I got withing one tile of the domination limit, thus ending the game prematurely.

Not sure I got a terribly good score out of it either, but at least I topped 8k, which is probably my highest base-score game ever, so at least there's that.

Really enjoyed the game. Thanks a lot for this map :)

Cultural victory in 1824 :shake: I was so disgusted with my performance that I forgot to ship the last Great Artist, for a one turn earlier victory.

As happens more often with me, I had only two cultural cities and had to bomb the third. I only conquered Egypt, and by that time it was too late for a good third city. In hindsight the ideal strategy would have been to drop axemen with a galley next to Hannibal very early in the game, and have his capital as the third cultural city.

I was careless with building stonehenge and oracle, and was punished with 5 Great Prophets.

First time post but what the hey...

Just got into Civ4 a few weeks ago and figured I'd register here and give this a shot. Did some forum reading and played one or two quick games into the modern era with different settings to get a feel for it first.

Decided to be aggressive early and took out both Hatty and Hannibal by 1480 AD (ok, it wasn't a super rush :p). I then settled in place and started building up and was being culturally squeezed by Brennus for a while. In retrospect I probably should have taken him out too.

I kept changing my mind on what victory I wanted to go for but after meeting Vicki I realized that she was ahead of me in tech and I wasn't going to catch up. She proceeded to beat me to a few wonders by less than 5 turns which was frustrating. After reassesing I realized that I had settled too long and was not confident in amphibious assaults so I decided space was going to be the way to go (I wasn't going to be able to reach the culture goals before spaceships despite leading the culture race).

I made a newbie mistake about 30 turns before my victory by accepting Brennus' offer to be my vassal and automatically declaring war on Rome who Brennus was DOW with. I ended up saving Brennus' bacon and managed to get some gold out of the deal when I convinced Augustus to cease fire (at that point I was in the midst of building my spaceship).

Ended up winning in 2019 AD. Definitely made some mistakes and picked up on some things to try next time. For my first Civ4 game actually completed though I was fairly happy.

-------------------------

I did make one early decision that I am curious if someone can comment on though. In order to block Hatty early before I rushed her I settled my second city 2N of the rice. I'm not sure if this slowed me down a lot or if it was a decent idea. Something like this wouldn't work on a more Pangea like map but on the maze I thought it might be worth it.

Finally completed my move from West coast to East coast and it was time to play a winnable Xotm. The recent series left me out of being one of the winners so I took this one easy and went for a Diplomatic game with two days left. Got rid of Hanibal early with two axes. Let others choose there fate with there actions. So Celts had to go when they decided to be annoyed with us but we were using them to get units promoted for many centureis and was not in a hurry to kill them off.

Rest was a peaceful game till winning in 1800 AD. Gifted Liberalism to all AI's so they stoped being buddies due to religion. In the end they all voted for Greeks.

I agree with The-Hawk, a fun map and overall game. As I mentioned in the 1st spoiler thread, my goal was space and by 500AD.................

Is it really possible to launch that early in the game?

@ Harbourboy Congrats on your win. I did not know if I will like the map at first but ended up liking it.

@ mjdoom You probably did get a distance penelty of 1 or 2 additinal gold per turn. And that can lead to slow research. I myself only built one city between Hatty and the capital just to gain the stone for my Wonder habit. Took out Hanny and his capital was my second city. Since they were connected and close, not much of a distance penelty.

Cultural Victory 2015 AD on Contender.

I only built three cities and my lone combat engagement was with a Barb warrior. I may or may not have declared war on someone for diplo points, but if I did I didn't engage in hostilities. This was also my first Cultural win. A little disappointed by the ending movie.

So many posts from people who've completed their games yet noone apparently noticed how the map was set up :( :p
