I did not finish my game this time because I played too bad at the beginning and there was no sense (i mean it was not interesting to me) to continue.

The map was set up crazily, that's all I know.

So I went and looked... and still am not seeing it

It was obviously more subtle than I thought.

Clue: Look at the civs in the game and where they are.

You started on the classical continent (Greeks, Romans, Celts, Carthaginians, Egyptians). Once you had caravels you could go discover the modern continent (England, America).
