WOTM 27 First Spoiler

Reading Requirements

Stop! If you are participating in WOTM 27, then you MUST NOT read this thread unless EITHER
  • You have reached at least 500 AD in your game, OR
  • You have submitted your entry

Posting Restrictions

  • Please do not disclose information gained post 500 AD.
  • Please do not name civilizations that requires caravels to contact.
  • Please do not reveal territory that requires caravels to reach.

Please note: we think there is a bug in World Builder that maintains total number of turns despite changes in game speed. This means that your game is being played at Normal speed while the number of turns is for Epic speed. (660 versus 460).

We have not tested it but we think it likely that the game will play beyond 2050 AD.

Everybody is skipping the first spoiler?

I settled on the spot and went on to found three other cities. First one on the desert tile and built the oracle -> CS sling there. Another on the flood plains to SE. I was trying to be polite and nice at this low level to head to UN.

Then Luis got LB's and declared war on me. Little punk. I should have played my usual game of attacking early. But nooooo. I had to try something new. I can get LB's in 7 Turns and I have about 5 cats protecting the borders. So I stopped the session to get my new plan togather. Which should be head to Gunpowder and take over about 60% of land and stay the course toward UN.:scan:

Louis seemed to research at a breakneck pace, and was way ahead of me. He also had LBs before I could get to him but we'll see how that goes.

I settled 2S and started cranking out Warriors. They went and found most everyone and I settled on HC as he appeared to be nearest. SoB got Archers just before I attacked and we played Cat and Mouse for a long time. I went AH, Writing, Math, Mining, Masonry, Construction. Chopped a lot of Cats and they went off to war.

Great fun game, I didnt do too bad by 500AD, was comfortably ahead. only because the difficulty level was managable. If this had been Monarch level, then kiss Put's behind goodbye would have been the likely story.

Oh, and the flood plains probably helped alot too!

I think I went Roads, Pottery, Mining, Bronze Working, Writing then Alphabet. Did alot of trading with Writing for other low (archery lol!) techs then headed off to literature for the Great Library. Then back through Monarchy (for HR) to Feudalism (LB's).

After puzzling out implications of forested, no-resource map, game has played simpler than anticipated. For example, didn't realize how infrequently barbs appear at Noble level. Nonetheless, pleased to have a map so different to deal with.

Founded two additional cities, the first to the NW to block the Incas from those flood plains and the second on the flood plains to the SE.

Researched Mining and BW to be able to chop workers, then moved on to The Wheel and Pottery to take advantage of the cheap granaries. Don't recall the exact order, but studied Mysticism and built Stonehenge, Writing and built a library in Washington, then remember I made a mistake (based on experience in test game that didn't replicate) and went for Alphabet before Math. Eventually traded or researched the techs required to build the Oracle and used that to get Construction. Studied Monarchy, Feudalism, Currency and CoL before cutting way back on research. Eventually researched Drama and Music (for GA) and CS for extended farming.

Produced four workers before chopping a settler (whipped my second settler) and continued to produce primarily workers until catapults became available. Chopped all the forests down in the initial three cites to get cats advancing ASAP, then started chopping forests just outside the fat crosses of captured cities to leave most forests within for health. Happiness achieved with warrior MPs.

Initial army of cats attacked the Incas, then the English, then the Aztecs. Second army deployed against the French and then the Ottomans. Third cat and longbow army conquered the Koreans in 500 AD.

There is now one Ottoman city remaining, and it will stand while more land is dominated and the population (and score) grows. Built granaries in captured cities, followed by either a courthouse and/or an aqueduct.
