Would any other people be interested in a College Mascot mod?

First, let me get this out of the way, long time lurker, first time poster. I appreciate all the regulars around here greatly, I have learned a lot from your hard work over the years.

So my wife and I are HUGE civ fans, and we're enjoying Civ 4 so far. One of our favorite things we've done in the past is change our Civ and City names to names that go with our colleges (I am a Texas grad, my wife a Kansas grad and a Texas grad for her masters). Well, since hearing all about how moddable Civ 4 is going to be, we started talking about making a full blown college mod where we would make civs for as many popular schools as we could think of or round up. At the very least, we will probably make a Texas and Kansas mod for our own personal use. So the question I want to ask is, does anyone else play this way? And does anyone else want to add their school? If there is some interest in this, I'd be happy to act as a compiler for anyone who wanted to submit info for their personal favorite schools. We'll start with the easy stuff, just changing text, setting the default colors to school colors, maybe a flag graphic. But eventually it would be nice to actually try to come up with Leaderheads and UUs too.

One other thought, we have also talked about changing the "religion" aspect of the game to be "sports" instead. Instead of founding Judaism, you could invent football. We'd make it work exactly the same as it does now, we're not looking to change game mechanics, just looking to give it a college twist.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Futzy

Ha! I really like your idea. For the record I attended The University of Delaware and our mascot is the Fightin' Blue Hen. I guess we missed out on good mascots.

Replacing religion with sports is interesting. I bet you could replace missionaries with coaches and temples with stadiums. Maybe replace The Internet with Fantasy Sport League?

As a side note, you're not the only one thinking about replacing religion. I was thinking about doing some kind of asian mod that replaces religion with martial arts styles. There's a lot of things you can do with this game.

This would work well with leaderheads, since most mascots are "cartoony" to begin with. You could have a field day assigning civ traits to the various schools! If you wanted to go all out, the great leaders could be replaced with famous alums from each school.

As far as the religion issue goes, I think your sports idea is probably the best idea, since it lends itself to things like the "football shrine of knoxville".

But if you go with alums/coaches as replacements for great leaders, what do you plan on using to replace the city names? I don't think many schools have enough campuses.

Edit: of my various schools, I think Cincinnati (the original UC) lends itself best to this mod. It would be odd negotiating with a giant "Bearcat", however.

Wooga

I probably should have been more specific about city names. What we usually do is use names of buildings from campus as city names. And I forgot to mention it in the original post, but yes, we were planning on changing the names of the great people to people from each school. In fact, one of the discussions we've been having is should the leaderhead be the mascot, or a great person from the university? Maybe the mascot and a real person or two since each civ can now have multiple leaders to pick from?
