Would you buy expansions if available later on?

Would you buy expansion(s) later on if available after Civ IV’s release?

 • Of course! I would always buy and update my Civ IV, whenever available.

 • Probably. It depends but I’m a big fan so odds are I will buy any expansion(s).

 • Not sure. In a way it would be good, but I don’t look foreword to buying more games.

 • Maybe not. If Civ IV is a good game all by itself, I won’t need any expansions.

 • Never! Civ IV should be the most it could be. I look down on expansion packs.

Obviously there has been some talk that considering the number of Civs (19), it is just a natural assumption that there might be expansions later on which would add more content.

Some people are strongly against buying more expansions, while others people look foreword to that.

Personally, the way I think of it is like this:
The base game is more concept innovation, and less on content. And the expansions just add more content and build on that base concept.
I would buy the expansion(s). Anything new, I would buy along the way.

So would you? Why or why not?

I think you should be talking about Civ3 (NOT Civ4) expansion, right?

It depends on the content of the expansion.
If it is just more civilizations to choose, I probably won't buy it.

And as you say, it is released after the release of Civ4. Unless Civ4 sucks or bring no surprise or great joy to me, I'm almost not going to buy the expansion.

I would like to choose "probably not", but since this option is not avaiilable, I choose "maybe not".

EDIT: It seems you are talking about Civ4 expansion after several reading. Oh! I have voted already, then so be it

Then I would choose "probably" for Civ4 expansion.
How can I eat my "poll" and repoll again? Impossible ?!

I voted Probably. While I am a big fan of the Civ3 and Civ series in general, that doesn't mean I'll automatically like Civ4. I don't want to be able to zoom in smoothly, or have better terrain transitions, or a true 3D view. If the AI is not better than Civ3, and the gameplay hasn't really dramatically changed, (ie; still same core of units / techs that haven't been changed), I might not buy expansion. Of course, if I want to keep up with the latest competitions / SGs, etc, I'll have to buy it. But I hope Firaxis doesn't do what they did with Civ3, especially PTW - a strong core game is way better than expansions, and I would wait longer for them in order to find bugs. I don't want to be the one finding them - of course, I will bet you that Civ4 will have expansions, and even though I may not like it, I will be indirectly 'forced' to buy it to keep up with everyone else.

I would, expansion packs are great as they add more depth to the game.

I have found the conquests expansion pack a great asset to civ3, so if a similar was realesed for civ4 (more civs, scenarios etc) then I would buy!

It depends on how much the expansions add
If they make potentially significant changes (units/techs/governments) to the epic game that could just be edited in, then I'd be annoyed that they are selling that and probably wouldn't buy it.

If they only add new civs, I might not even bother with the editing

If they add a lot of decent scenarios..I'd buy it once it was cheap enough

If they add new aspects to the game in terms of editability, max civs, etc. Then I'd probably buy it.

(That's because I hope they release a 'scenario-less' game* so as to get it out as soon as possible after the epic game is done...and then dump scenarios out in an expansion...something that expansions are good for)

*except for some Earth maps

I voted probably. I love a good scenario, when all is said and done. However, this would move to "most definitely" if they were to expand on the game with a new feature of some sort.

Probably. It depends but I’m a big fan so odds are I will buy any expansion(s).

It depends on how good Civ IV is, and how much the expansion packs add to the game. If it's just another couple civs, then I'm not going to spend $30 on it, but if it's like Conquests with extra civs, and scenario's and bug fixes, and stuff like that, then I'll get it.

I first want to play CIV 4 to see if I want to buy the new exp pack. But there are no such options so I'm leaving this poll aside

There would have to be a lot of new content in an expansion pack for me to buy it. Or it just has to be real cheap.

Damn, I voted definitely, then I remembered 'Play the World' and thought "oops, should have voted Probably", then I remembered "oh hell, its a Civ expansion, as if I wouldn't rush out and buy it as soon as it became available"-and I'm sure you get the idea ;)!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

Voted probably, cause I didn`t bought PTW neither. It was disaster, C3C should have been published way before and instead the PTW.

Maybe not.

If - as I unfortunately do expect - Civ4 will have the same quality as C3C has, I'm even unsure about buying this one.

I voted never since the option that I wanted was not available...

Not sure - Depends on whether or not there are tons of errors (since there is a history of waiting to "fix" stuff for the expansions) or some horrible design decision that is readdressed in the expansion.

Bought civ3 day of release (found fairly major bugs within a day or two)... did not buy PTW. Only bought conquests AFTER many positive reviews by people here. Extremely disappointed that they did not fix remaining bugs in conquests.

Will try to wait a few weeks after release to buy civIV (on the other hand if there is some sort of public beta - I would try it out then and see if they respond to feedback before making a decision to buy).

In other words, if the game is a joke come release time I will not buy the game. If they "fix" the game in an expansion and there are good "non-fanboy" reviews, then I will buy the game and whichever expansion fixes the game.

I'll almost certainly buy Civ IV - my favorite game has been one version of Civ or another almost since I got my first computer. (Solitaire ruled for a week or two before I bought my first game, IIRC.) Unless the reviews are truly abominable after the game comes out, I'll get it.

If Civ IV is good - and while Civ III made the cut for me, it only just did - then I'll buy expansion packs. If I don't like Civ IV, I'm not going to sink in more money hoping to fix it.

I voted probably - I expect Civ IV to be good, and I bought both expansion packs for Civ II and both for Civ III. :)

If the game is quality - (I expect to see a few patches - no software is ever released 100% right) - I'll buy Civ4. And if the price is right - $40 to $50 , then it is worth it - (I spend more out on one night on the town - and Civ gives 100's of hours of entertainment, it's a deal.) Of coarse, I will wait for awhile before buying Civ4 - Civ3 gives me plenty to do - and any expansions will be bought only if Civ4 is a quality product.

But I like the expansion pack concept - (if it is a true expansion pack and not just a bunch of patches that should be free) - it allows developers to get a decent product out quicker, and also gives them the cash flow to keep improving their product. Again, $30 or $40 for a quality product that will keep me entertained for 100's of hours is cheap when broken down to cost per hour.

I was 'lucky' - I discovered Civ3 only recently - so was able to buy Civ3 Complete for $35 - got the original and all expansions for a great price. Who knows - I may wait until Civ5 is announced to buy Civ4 - Civ3 is that good for me. ;)
