I was asking my closest competitor for his world map. He refused. I offered a lux. No deal. Eventually it got to the point that I offered my entire empire on a silver platter for his world map. To my astonishment the silly bugger refused yet again! I had twice as many cities as this guy, they were all well developed. I had 8 sources of gems, 2 of iron, and 3 of coal for goodness sake! :crazyeyes I knew that the ai couldent see a good deal if it sat on it, but this takes the cake for stupidity! Also, my empire was right next to his! Corruption would have been minor!

In retaliation for this insult, I attacked and raised 6 of his major cities. Revenge you know... ;)

BTW, how do you get the comp to accept a city for a trade?

I think it's good that the AI usually doesn't accept deals when it has to surrender cities. I mean, not many civs would sell there empire piece after piece, maybe colonies but certainly not the homeland. And it's probably very hard to implement that correctly, has anyone of you played MOO2? There you sometimes were able to get the AI to the point where it gave you almost the whole empire for nothing.

But they do surrender cities if they see no other choice. In one of my games I was on the way to win a war against the Americans. But as I was also engaged into battles on another front I decided peace with them would be a nice idea. So I offered them peace for a city, and the advisor said it will probably be acceptable. So I asked for one more city, and so on. Finally I got six of his cities just for making peace, so it is possible but just in very desperate situations.

Before the patch, you could trade cities and the AI rated them extremely highly (an attempt to stop players from buying cities). Unfortunately, this cut both ways and it was found that the AI would give away enormous sums of money and techs etc. in return for some naff piece of land in the middle your empire which would promptly culture flip back a few turns later. It made things too easy, particularly at the 'harder' levels.

So the patch changed things so you can only offer or take cities as part of peace negotiations when making peace after a war.

the stupid thing is that border straightening is out the window, too. often i`d like to exchange cities - mine that he took angainst his that i now control because both are islands in the other guys territory. when i`m culturally and militarily ahead he should really be able to see light and grab the deal.....
