You're right - Mostly this hasn't been an issue with PC games - they haven't bothered.
There is localisation of games, and prevention of people using non local disks in computer games. Look at any of the consoles.
I'm wondering out loud if they've used this as part of the copy protection mechanism and this is the problem with the UK DVD version. All movie DVD's do have a region code and it would be pretty easy to make any DVD such as a game similar.
I'd really like to know if this is the situation - as I said I suspect - happy to be wrong.

. Try downloading Anti-Blaxx.Install it. then right click and go to settings. In the Protection field put SafeDisk. (if doesnt work try others). In the game, get the autorun.exe path on your CD (DVD). Works fine for me.
