and i cant kill his ass? How do i fix this ? at this point all i want to do is :nuke: his arse!

You could hit him with radioactive monkeys. Then when he's down try again... Whatever you did before...

Could you elaborate, what exactly happened

To Eleberate what happend:

Its about 50 turns before end of the game, i am leading in points and in weapon techs. The Dutch are about to win with the space ship, as he was building the final peaces for space race victory. My submarines nuked his entire continent to peaces and i followed up with marine, tank invasion.

Basicly the dutch went from winning to loosing in manner of 5 or 6 turns. Now he is my vessal, i let him live becuase i didnt want to hunt down his remainder of 1 tile island cities that he has spread so i decided to be merciful and let him live and caputalized him.

ahh. so vesssals are only good for reasorses. so i realy have no reason to take vessals in the future since i have most of thier lands lol. Now..how do i extract my vengance on him?

If you move troops into his territory and THEN demand something, you will give him the option of declaring war on you if he refuses.

In the case he is furious he will almost always declare war on you. Kill him off and the space ship is history.

I won ! :) hehe time victory, his spaceship just like his research production went along with his continent lol

vassal is good if you can have Friendly with them later . I love Pascal his so cute . weak power but good techer easy going , easy to surrender :D . when i backstab then vassalize him he become friendly again very soon . Then I told him to tech , after he finish it I took it from him :D Just make sure you leave them plenty off
land left so they can still tech well .

My big complaint is when your vassal cancels trade treaties with you - hey, buddy, I'm the one that just wiped your army off the map, and the only reason your sorry little civ is still on the planet is I mercifully allowed you to keep breathing! So, YOU don't cancel trades, I'll tell YOU when the deal is over, not the other way 'round, K?

Just bugs me greatly - I'll demand a resource, he'll give it. 3 turns later (ok, probably an exaggeration, but that's what it seems like) I'll get a little message at the top of the screen saying he's 'cancelled the deal', so I go in and demand it again, and he agrees again - just to cancel the deal again soon after! I wish there was a way to somehow force an unbreakable deal on your vassal - or, to be fair in what I'm saying, an option that says "breaking this deal equals a return to a state of war between our civs".

It's more about the micromanagement with me, I guess - he's welcome to refuse and go to war with me again if he wants; i just don't want to have to keep demanding the same thing every 4 or 5 turns... After all, if he's having trouble hearing my demands, I'll be happy to send in some troops to properly express my wishes... :)

lol... sorry, I think I've managed to completely go off on a tangent; just reminded me of something I dislike about my vassals... Nothing to see here, carry on... :)

@OP: All your cities recieve +1 :) for each vassal you have ("We influence other civilizations!"), and half of his population and points count as yours. Furthermore, if available, a vassal must vote for his master unless he is himself the other candidate.
Also, a Vassals city can still generate traderoutes with the master even if the master is in Mercantilism, so there are some pretty nice bonuses by having vassals...

@Wejer: The "Time for your tribute! Pay or die!" option is only available for ressources aswell.

Well it is possible to demand a resource, then smash the AI into pieces. Usually that is your general goal, since vassals are most of the time very backward.

I will begin working on the Guantanamo Bay mod immediately.

One other minor use for Vassals to spread Corps to them so you get the profit without the maintenance. Then demand the needed resources so you're essentially taxing a nation. Since they're paying for the corp. while gaining little to no benefit. All the while you're reaping the profit.

Not to mention, you can consolidate the resources you need for your corps without bothering to control their land.

This same usage applies to colonies. Create em, spam corps = profit.

Though usually this kind of strategy is irrelevant since it requires a bit of time to set it all up, and imo if you're doing this you've already won anyway. So...

:king:

Just demand resource. Your vassal refuse, then declare war.

If it happens early in the game, one way is to give your vassal back some crxpper cities by liberating them. But before that make sure you whip all cities back to one-pop into military units, settlers and workers and pillage some strategic resources. Then when your vassal gains enough land he/she will announce freedom and you can immediately attack and raze those useless cities.

I have a question, there are 2 posibilities of having vasals. First is when somebody ask you to be your vasal. In this case after awhile he can decide not to be your vasal anymore.
Second, if a civ capitulate to you and become your vasal. In this case can he decide at some point not to be your vasal anymore?

No, not decide. But if he reaches half your size or falls to hal his former size (when the pact was made), he breaks free, either because hes too big or too small for you to control :P

I like to make sure my vassals are at least pleased with me, even the ones I declared war on. An easy way to do it is to declare war on an AI who is cautious with me. Once I've conquered a far load of his cities so he can never be a force again - and if i didn't raise any of his cities - I'll gift back some of his cities. This often leads to a + relationship which outweighs the - effect of declaring war. So the AI is happier with me now that he is my vassal than he was previously!

I don't like taking vassals. Total war, baby, or nothin'! :king:
