ww2 carrier default flc

since the civ3's carrier is more of like nuclear carrier...i decided to make something more ancient.... yes..its not very pretty..but it'll do.. i just modified the civ3's carrier a bit..

heres the default.flc..ill try to do the other flc as soon as i find an easy way to merge 2 frames on top of each other transparently so i can reuse as much as the frames from the existing carrier in civ3

I just started, so I'm still a bit trying to find out how to bring in the movements, for ships and planes like e.g. a carrier and the sunderland bomber.

I also was already attempting a WO II carrier, I had something more as the attachments in mind, which is modelled after the British and US carriers of WO II......

need a bit of feedback here..should i do the rest? or dont bother cuz the unit is just crap..
 
The unit looks good so please continue..... and if you find an easy way to merge two frames, please share it cause the shadows creation business is giving me a loooootttt of headaches..... :(

found it easier to work with photoshop layers than psp.. :)

I think it looks great! if it were me i'd shorten the front of the carrier a little since WWII carriers weren't as long as the Super Carriers of today.
 
i was wondering if this one is still in the workshop, i've been longing for a WWII carrier for a while now :).
 
Looks great!!! But a wooden flying deck would be more realistic for a WW2 carrier. And some little cannons on the sides of the hull firing for the attack animation.
I suggest this unit come with Mass Production, replacing the Civ3 carrier, and put the other (the civ3 nuclear carrier) come with Rocketry, to be more realistic, with the appearance of jet fighters.

its looking good, can't wait for that death and run animation. Great work as usual papajohns.
 
This will probably be used with the WW2 Mod, whenever the next version is released.

good question.... :) i found that i have done 1/2 of the run animations and kinda left it alone.....ill try to start working on it again.
 
Papajohns; I realy like this unit! Looks great.

If you want to get it finished quickly I have a sugestion for the death.
Iv'e just finished doing a fully 3d animated death for my new submarine, and it took forever! But with the carrier you might just want to have loads of smoke and flames engulf the ship.

If you want, I can find a suitable explosion animation (ten frames or so) and make a flic out of it the same size as the carrier default flic with the same palete. All you need to do then is merge the two pcxs with photoshop and voila! exploding carrier.
If you fill the background in black before merging them you can even make them semi transparent, with part of the deck showing through. (if you don't change the background colour first the explosion will be tinted magenta in the places wher it overlaps the deck.

O.k so it doesn't make the most technologicaly impresive death sequence but it works just fine. ;)
 
hey..whatever is easiest :)

mm..but i was kinda set in having the ship sink..but i guess explosion will do for the time being..just so this one can get shipped out there...no pun intended.. :)
 
You could always do a V2.00 once the sinking death is finished;
I find that most units are almost never finished, theres always something you feel you could do to improve it.

I'll post a couple of death flics for you to choose, In most pictures of the american ships that were sunk in WWII from the pacific fleet, the ship was almost totaly obscured with smoke by the time it sunk.
 
O.k Ive done a death flic if you want to use it (I won't be offended if you don't, its not very high quality :) I had a few problems mostly due to the fact that I tried to make the explosion animation I already had around 50% bigger).
Anyway, here it is, I couldn't tell what entry you were using for shadow colour, cos it wouldn't show up in flickster;
