Guys and gals,

I would like to give you a some advice on how I have been able to get resolve two 3D games (Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 with soaked exp pack and CIV) to get to run on my XFX Geforce MX 4000 video card (AGP 128M) that was experincing crash to desktops (CTD) and also random system reboots.

The first thing I did was get my manual out to my video card, went to he recommended site and found the proper driver for my card. Note: I am currently running the 6693 drivers from NVIDIA, not the lastest and presumed greatest drivers.

The next thing I did was go to www.futuremark.com and went to the more produces link under the benchmarks and then downloaded the 3Dmark2001SE file (free download). This is essentially a intensive 3d program that thoroughly tests your video card with the direct x files. I set the progam to run looping so the program would run indefinately until I manually stopped it from running. I did this while experiencing CTD while playinig RCT3. I found that while running the program the computer would reboot. Once I removed my router that was directly connected to my pc and placed my lan router on a switch my CTD went away and had no issues with RCT3. This program will ensure the isue is not with your pc.

Once I got CIV and started getting CTD I knew that my hardware setup should not be the issue so I started playinig with the options and found the following to date. If I go to the advanced > Options > Graphics and chose the following options;Animations frozen, effects disabled, and global view buildings disabled (place a x besides each one) and also disabled all my sounds I no longer have and more CTD. While testing I found by disabling the above options I got major slowdowns and also CTD. I have yet to do each one individually or add my sound back as have been enjoying the game since I lost my CTD.

One other thing you may want to do is go to the microsoft website and download their beta antispyware program (also free) and run it to ensure you have no bugs lurking in your system.

I hope these suggestions help someone else so they can also enjoy CIV.
