Hi everyone, I'm a bit new to modding, so bear with me.
I have a copy of civ4 beyondthesword, and was attempting to make some minor changes to the game to balance it more towards the way i want to play the game (most changes are simple research and build times). So now I'm stuck in 2 places:
1. In Civ4 pre-expansion, there was a "Civ4BonusInfos.xml" file where I could edit the bonus resources. Looking in the same folder under assets\xml\terrain, I can't find it in the BTS assets. I'm wondering if it was moved to somewhere else or if the information was pooled into a different xml file. What I wanted to do is to change the visibility of certain resources to require research before you can see them. I tried placing a copy of the civ4 version of the xml file in and changing it there, but that just gives me a bunch of bugs. Any insight would be much appreciated.
2. This is my biggest issue: I tried to edit the research tree, changing some prereqs cost, etc. for the civ4 research. Mainly my objective was to span out the post-middle ages periods so that they are harder to get and so the middle ages can play out longer. So what I have done is edit "Civ4TechInfos.xml".
Changes I've made are as such:
Edit prerequisites for research to make a new tree
Edit the x and y locations of the research to make it more aesthetically appealing
Edit the "and" and "or" requirements for research
Edit the research cost of research
And the result is that the game starts with no errors, and runs perfectly smoothly until I end my first turn. Then the game just simply crashes (I assume), going back to my desktop with no "civilization has encountered an error" or "send bug report" or anything. Simply, end turn, black screen for a second, desktop.
So I'm wondering if there's anything I may have missed or need to do extra. One possibility I came up with is leaving some tags empty instead of as none. That was sloppy work on my part, and I'll post more when I finish fixing it.
Edit: I have edited other files, but they're very minor changes-all integer changes only, so I have not posted it as relevant info. I have tested using each changed file individually on a clean assets folder mod, and it only happens when civ4techinfos.xml is used
