XP and Larger Campaigns

I've had Civ5 for a few months and, go figure from the forum I'm on, I love it. But since Day 1 I have had the same problem... I can't launch larger maps, regardless of how low I take the graphic settings. Any map or campaign above standard won't initialize without crashing the game. Is this a DX9 issue because I only have XP or is there some other reason for it that is cheaper and easier to fix?

We'd need some more infos about your computer to tell you if it's a problem with your machine, but it's definitely not a problem with DX9/XP.
