xUPT, right for WM?

the absolute real problem with the stack or no stack thing, is this is a turn based game, with turn based battles.

If perhaps civ had a system where it was every civ move one unit at a time, then stacks would not be so useful, but that simply is not going to happen.

This is really a very fundamental part of the civ (not just IV) system. And frankly, if any of you want to try and code some kind of workable AI that can handle this, and get a system going that can, be my guest. But expect many unintended consequences.
 
and it breaks lots of FFH features like area spells.

I would consider breaking AoW spells somewhat of a bonus. You couldn't use them on a straight front, but it would work on a broken one or for units that have plunged behind enemy lines.

But I'll respect your opinion on the matter and consider the post's original question answered.
