You can no longer continue playing after loosing?!?

In civ 4 when someone won, you had the "just one...more....turn!" option that allowed you to keep playing anyways. However, I heard someone on the forum say that if the person who scores a victory isn't the player, then is he not allowed to continue.

Is this true? And if so then why? What possible good reason is there?

I hope this is just a rumor. I haven't actually lost a game completely. Quit when in a losing position, yes, but get to the "you lose" screen, no. But whenever this happened to me in Civ4 (especially a large AI with vassals winning a cheap diplomatic victory) I loved to continue playing and burn all their cities and those of their vassals too.

:ar15: Developers. I played a game where alexander won a space race victory in civ4. I was aiming that route so I continued and burned his cities. Ever since I loved it. :ar15: Developers.

Ok, I have invested almost 2 dozen hours into the game and while I had loads of fun to begin with I have now reached the conclusion that the AI is simply too horrible for the game to be enjoyable. I knew that it suffered from some issues, but the fact that it literally doesn't build (or at the very least, extremely rarely) a lot of the units in the game like air power and nukes, doesn't build enough units unless you are playing on high difficulty levels and even then only because it cheats, and is just all around horrible at protecting itself thus removing all challenge from the game means that I just don't see the point in playing the game right now.

Don't get me wrong, I don't actually hate the actual game part of the game (though I do think it could use some improvements), its just that the AI is so bad that it sucks all of the fun out of the game. When and if it gets fixed I will probably start investing dozens of hours into Civ 5, but in the meantime I will probably just do something else with my free time.

Anyone else feels the same? :(

Why do you care about continuing after losing?

Because not everybody plays just to win?

Indeed.

But speaking of which, now that the AI "plays to win" how does it actually behave after its no longer possible "to win" so to speak? Won't it just fall apart? Even more then it already does that is?

I'd really like to see a poll of how many people actually play for the victory, and not for the journey.

if you lose, why or how would you ever want to continue?

Are you sure? I seem to recall the option being there on the screen - maybe it was just a victory option... I know I have seen it in Civ5...

Oh. And it's LOSING. That is a huge pet peeve of mine...

I lost on a score victory and I was unable to click the one more turn button but when I won a diplomatic win, I was able to keep going.

I've had that happen to me on time loss too, But Arabia couldn't get past me and kill me for centuries and centuries, all taht work for nothing! I was researching up tech and got panzers massing up to get revenge. Sorry you can't continue after you lost.
