Demons make everything better in a computer game.

For example, instead of "climate change" with a couple of piddly tiles turning into deserts, we could instead have a demonic invasion if too many forests are cut.

Tiles around the world would turn into hellfire from which demons spawn. You weren't environmentally friendly enough and acted like a warmongering bastard? DEMONIC INVASIONS.

It would make the endgame much more interesting.

We had mindworms in alpha centauri. They don't exactly qualify as demons, but the "pacifistic" gaian faction used them to eat their opponents alive.

Civilization VI: Underworld has just been leaked!

The next expansion for the award-winning latest iteration of the award-winning franchise has just been announced by the developers. Who needs grounded-to-earth technologies and units, such as the GDR or lightning strike wielding monks, when you can have demons, vampires and goblins that can jump over the clouds? Release date is unknown, but Shafer is the lead designer once again! A true nightmare of an expansion!

Stay tuned.

Wouldn't an alien invasion be more historically accurate? :) You know, Eleanor built too many broadcast towers & then the aliens noticed the radio signals, invaded earth & you have to build X-Com squads to liberate the cities they have taken over.

I wouldn't mind a late game "dark wizard" unit, which can roam the map and trigger hurricanes. Or perhaps if there's too much religious combat in an area, it spawns a tornado and destroys them all.

That's actually not THAT bad. Sure, it's definitely on the cheeky side, but a Civ/XCOM crossover would be very interesting. Plus being forced to fight against a stronger opponent in the endgame sounds more fun that fight the braindead AI you surpassed in tech.

I'm absolutely sure that the 3rd expansion will be called "Alien Twilight" and feature an invasion of earth. Where I know this from? I have reliable sources :)

The CivII fantasy scenario was kind of neat.

I would definitely pay for Civilization: Fantasy spinoff.

Provided it had have higher quality than Beyond Earth.

OK, now I'm getting worried. I understood the OP wanted to have some good, old, sarcastic fun... but now you are giving FXS ideas. Don't. Please.

I believe you mean Civilization VI - Might & Magic Edition?

This might be a joke, but I actually agree. I love fantasy themed civ games. Fall from Heaven 2 for Civ 4 was brilliant, as was Fallen Enchantress.

I agree with the OP. Copious amounts of mind-altering substances make the game a lot more fun indeed...x

We do need to revamp air combat to be crappy and unsatisfying to be more similar to XCOM, (just kidding but not really) anyways as someone who played XCOM: UFO Defense and XCOM: Enemy Within I'd love to see some ways to upgrade your troops with resources like Elerium and Alien Alloys, some X-Files like stuff like covert crash retrieval teams would be fun to have so you can secure UFO tech before others.

Well angels and elves and other fantasy races would help a lot , but a new game just for them sounds even more fun :)

I like the idea. I'd offer that they would perhaps be more prone to help the civs that spit out the most carbon (making things more like home). Perhaps all the fire they breathe could add to the warming as well? You could have angels and such who don't like increased temperatures, wanting instead to keep things cool.
