Yes I love alpha Centauri also, but when Brian Reynolds left Firaxis this possibility became unlikely. As long as people keep supporting civ they probably don't have a good enough financial reason to make an alpha centauri 2.

You should check out the SMAC forums here at civ fanatics and Apolyton civ (which are more active). civ.org also arranged SMAC gotm which is cool.
