I clearly remember this one game I was playing, as a faction called The Vanguard of the New World, and I, as the largest power on planet, was warring with the Ishbu (both of which are downloadable at networknode.org), the second largest power by a hair. There was a single huge continent in the middle, with larger islands to the north and south. I started solely inhabiting a large island in the north, which basically allowed me to develop without having to deal with pesky early rushes, cementing my dominance. The Ishbu had conquered most of the major continent, and then I took over the western half of it from them.

Anyways, in the middle of the continent was just barren wasteland, across which a single road was linking the western Ishbu cities with the eastern Ishbu cities. I, after finishing with the western half, set out along this slim corridor to take over the Eastern part. It was incredibly fun, and surprisingly difficult, as we fought a running battle over the course of 20-30 turns (this highway was extremely long) until I arrived at the East coast. The battle along that highway was easily the most fun I've ever had in a single "battle" in SMAC.

What are some of your memorable SMAC moments?

I was playing as the Gaians, and the Hive declared war on me for being democratic. Now this would be a challenge, as they had the entire middle continent for theself, and he and I were at odds militarily and technologically.

I landed on the northwestern end of the continent, and took a city (I think it was "socialism tunnels"). It reminded me of D-Day. So my 10 units rested in Socialism Tunnels (Which incidentally was about 5 tiles south of the Hive's main base), and the war seemed to start off OK.

Then it said Yang wanted to speak with me. I decided to throw the ol raisin a bone, and listened to his case. He did all the usual stuff; said his servants remebered what I did and needed 2000 energy credits as reparition, said he needed all my research data, etc. Then he did something unexpected: he said that he had planet busters, and wasn't afraid to use them.

I didn't expect he would use them, but he did all the same. It was the first time I witnessed what a planet buster does. I could just watch as I heard the blaring sirens coming from one of my most prominent water bases off the coast of Hive territory, and saw the great cloud. For one moment, I truly felt like the ruler of a real nation who had just been attacked in the most evil way.

As per the UN charter, everybody declared war on the Hive. The Factions ceased their petty squabbling, and united against the evil Hive. My best game. Second best in score, but best in the fact it was epic.

:cooool:

I had so many of them that i have a hard time remembering any particular.
I guess that one i do remeber was the only one i finished by conquest (yes i am a very peaceful builder :) )
There was no particular super exiting moment, but it was intresting to see the "replay" at the end and see my teritory expand every turn, while their shrinked :)
Oh and btw i was univesity.

I'm Sparta, and alone on my little continent. On the twin continent, separated by a narrow channel, is the Hive. Suddenly, Yang declares war for no apparent reason. Immediately, a earthquake occurs, creating a land bridge joining our continents. My armour rolls over and takes a bunch of Hive cities. Apocalyptic.

^:rotfl: Even in SMAC, Murphy's law still applies!

I was the University (my fave faction) I was one of the largest powers, the Hive was like right next to me in power. The Hive had declared war and I was taking out some of his cities that wasn't on his main land. Then he attacked one of my cities with a ton of units with a planet buster, but thankfully it was knocked down by one of my obital defense thingys. I wasn't amused by this so send my own to a nuke one of his 12 cities. It destoried the city and 3-4 (forgot how much) of the other 12 cities. I kinda felt bad about how many people were killed.
