Random Raves XLII: How Amazingly Unlikely is Your Birth!

GLADURATION! Once I've completed the necessary paperwork (est. +6 months) I'll officially be awarded a university degree.

And also I've just narrowed the problems with the CD/DVD unit to strictly software i.e. a wrongly installed driver. Huzzah!

If only university degrees weren't handed out like candy to babies nowadays, this might actually have been a reason worth celebrating. Otherwise apprenticeships / internships are 100 times more superior in the current employment climate, at least in the UK.

Real degrees, like mathematics, engineering, physics and genetics are worth more.
All others are just stamp collecting using social media.

Ah, but I am not in the UK!

My degree contained thorough genetics, immunology, microbiology and biochemistry.

The lower second is what held me back though, cos I boozed and partied too much and honestly didn't care at all about getting A grades in anything. Maybe due to the narcissist upbringing I had with being forced into studying STEM stuff only when all I ever wanted was to be a pop star*.

But today its far worse, like 9/10 students in the UK get straight A's in everything and we're over saturated with skilled graduates with no jobs for them.

And no one wants to work for the NHS. I actually wanted to start voluntary work there out of sheer desperation, but they needed 2x2 year references and my degree is over 10 years old and less worth than applying for a job with a dead spider stapled to the application, and filling the entire form with nothing but 'SPIDER MAN'.

* I'd have stood a vastly higher chance of becoming a pop star than getting anywhere with stem if my savant like musical abilities had been properly honed to perfection instead, or if Beyonces dad had been my dad instead.

Sorry to hear that. (I hated Uni except for the chemicals.)
I was lucky that I by-passed 2nd and 3rd year undergrad and got a PhD.

I can't suggest much for you either - I'm technically a "dole bludger" because I
don't work for money. I give away all my programs and just publish papers.
Maybe pack up and move down here to the Socialist Workers Paradise?

I'm already a dole slave getting a free house soon too (7-10 days away from exchanging contracts!).

They wouldn't even respond to me when I tried applying to work to test water samples for Yorkshire Water after graduating, like wtf am I meant to do with this useless piece of wasted trees?

And I can't do the slightest physical work for medical reasons.

Shrug. Just give up wanting a "formal" job so much?

Are you not creative enough to do some research that you are both
qualified to do and love so much you would work on it for 24 hours a
day if you could?

I can write and compose songs in my sleep, or if I fry my neurons with psychedelics.

Have you tried this as a career path?

Soon after I move out and have privacy to do so I will try much more of it and make my mixtape.

So you've decided to accept the coconut. Good.

The Beatles(*) dragged Ringo down from the ceiling with a rake and let him
sing. Doesn't mean that the result was a good song though.

* The Beatles were a popular beat combo during the 1960's and 1970's. :p

Bea… is that from the time when the Ramones didn't yet exist?

I have many more like it and better encompassing the neo soul and jazz genres in the styles of Alicia Keys and Norah Jones, enough to fill what I would consider number 1 potential singles for at least 4 albums. My main barrier was learning how to, and still getting better at using recording software.

I have a second one recorded but it was left as a WIP with a serious rework of the entire backing track needed, as I used a simplified idea instead of the one I was envisioning due to it still being too complex. I won't even bother posting it outside of music production forums where I was trying to get help with improving that.

Or if someone could pair me up with an already established competent music producer, endless magic would happen.

Dunno. Last thing I heard about the Ramones was that they were in some TV show
or movie about sparkly vampires than teens liked.

The user Hygro has uploaded some stuff of his to Newgrounds. You might want to contact him, but I cannot say what his answer will be.

Jeez, is this how you respond to every bit of good news? "We're getting married!" "Pfft, 42% of marriages end in divorce."

Actually no, marriages are far worse than that.

They have a high tendency to end with the woman taking 50% of the man's wealth and custody of the children, and then filing a restraining order against the man 'because he called me a doo doo head' or something similar.

I honestly don't even think I'm capable of viewing anything in this world or that's done by people as 'good' anymore.
