May I suggest something? Using the 100 Civ DLL by Merkava will allow there to be more civs and maybe adding a plague feature but renaming it to Covid 19 would simulate the real 2020, of course that is not too important.
Anyway can't wait to play a game of this tonight!

I have worked on a plague feature but got stuck at some point, I might recontinue the project.
I will start playing right now so expect feedback in about an hour!
 
I have started a game with Israel and have encountered 1 pretty bug problem and a few minor ones.
The major problem is that whenever I open the Diplomacy screen with any civ I get the following error:

I also get this error when I try to make a trade deal.
For some gameplay changes definetely the Leaders are a problem. I mean really? Barack Obama president of the U.S.A. in 2020?
The game could use some more color, for that you could easily create your own or just install the 25 new colors mod by me.
Also I noticed the EU also has Sweden and Denmark. Well both of these countries have Kings as far as I know so they should be a seperate country. Also Iran and Turkey should have borders so maybe give Iran one more city above Iraq. Sao Paolo is the city with the 4th/5th most population in the world an it isn't even on the map!
And last, rename the scenario from 2010 to 2020 and maybe also add a new background and some background music.
Otherwise it is a good mod, just try to fix the Diplomacy problem, that's a pretty big problem.
P.S. Also maybe 3-4 more religions. My suggestions are: Instead of Christianity: Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Protestantism. Instead of Islam: Shia, Sunni.
 
Wait, is this Earth 2020 AD or just a continuation of Earth 2010?
It's a continuation of Earth 2010 that will include a 2018 or 2020 scenario in the future. So I'm not making any major changes to this particular map.
The 2018/2020 scenario will be on the Rhyes and Fall map

I fixed the diplomacy bug, there was some missing stuff in the DiplomacyInfos.xml. See post #2. Not sure why it didn't come up during the last playtest.
 
This week, I'm going to rebalance some building and unit costs, add unique buildings for each Civ, and release an altered version of the map (titled "Earth 2010 Redux") that will basically add or move some cities. Full disclosure, many of the UBs will be based off ideas from the long-defunct "World 2009" project.
This will be the last major update before I move into the transformative phase of this development (barring any more critical bugs)
 
The next update will be polishing up the UBs with some graphics and Civlopedia text, but I'm also thinking of adding a new set of modern wonders that recycle effects of wonders that are obsolete or no longer exist in the modern era. Of course lots of wonders still do exist - like Pyramids or the Eiffel Tower - but these will just have "tourist" effects like happiness and money bonuses, while some others like the Pentagon and the UN keep their bonuses because they're still relevant in the modern era.

I'm thinking of adding some pop culture references like Red October, Bob Lazar's UFO, and some others as world units eventually.
Anyways, there's a hotfix in post 2 because I made a stupid mistake with some prereq buildings that I should've caught. Not game-breaking like last time. Just directly paste into the "Earth 2020" folder, or do a fresh download of the whole thing.
 
Just released 1.06. It's mostly just new graphics for UBs, but there are two new unitclasses for you to step up your warfighting. See Post 1 for the full changelog.




 
Good progress is being made on update 1.1. I've decided to use Legends of Revolution as a framework for balancing units and the techs, as it adds good lategame content without going overboard. On top of this there will a roughly 30 tech custom modern and future era extension that will include some of the innovations and emerging technologies of the 2010s and 20s (3D Printing, 5G, Commercial Spaceflight, etc) as well as some more sci-fi post-Fusion techs like the ones from Next War.

In general, the 1.1x development stream should see these sorts of features come online:
- extended modern and future tech tree
- new units that reflect the diverse conditions of the battlefield of today and tomorrow, ranging from Partisans and Technicals, to Assault Mechs and Dropships
- buy weapons licenses from America, Russia, and others to bolster your forces with M1 Abrams or or MiG-29s that would otherwise be locked away as UUs
- new building classes. Power your cities cleanly with Solar Power, or reap the rewards of commerce and industry with corporate buildings
- changes to wonders: the old wonders of the world still reap the benefits of tourism, but it's those still on the drawing board that will provide you practical and lasting benefits to your nation
- two new global scenarios: 2017 and 2021
