Gr8 Team B The Pheonix Rising

I never tried communism, so I cannot comment. Wanna try it?

Turn 0, 1330AD: Decide not to revolt. Our peace w Greece is up in 3 turns, and our military is still very small. Operations overseas will have to be postponed as well.
MM looks good, thanks Leha! I switch a few builds from infra to military.
Found a silks colony and sell Silks + 3 gold to Hammi for 21 gpt. Upgrade some rifles and cannons.

IT: Hammi wants to extend our peace treaty and we do. We lose a lot of gpt somehow. France and England sign peace. WLTKD ends.

Turn 1, 1335AD: sci 70%.

Turn 2, 1340AD: sci 80%.

Turn 3, 1345AD: We're not ready to fight Greece yet, so I renegotiate peace: We pay 1 gpt + WM to Greece for peace.

Turn 4, 1350AD: zzz.

Turn 5, 1355AD: Am Grenze founded.

IT: China and Aztecs sign peace. A few stock exchanges finish and we get the Wall Street message. We secretly start a secret service:

Turn 6, 1360AD: Munich has been prebuilding and switches to Wall Street. sci 30%.

IT: Refining -> Steel.

Turn 7, 1365AD: The bad news is we do not have Oil. Greece has 3 sources, Japan 2, Aztecs, China and even tiny Babylon each have one. The good news is that France also has one, and it should be easy to take. So I start the construction of some ships and cavs. sci 90%.
Sell Refining to China for 623 gold + WM + gems + furs. Too cheap, but we can use some luxes.

IT: Greece has Combustion:

WLTKD all over the place.

Turn 8, 1370AD: sci 80%.

Turn 9, 1375AD: sci 70%. I'll stop here, at a "normal" turn number.

notes:
  • We need to save up some cash for Wall Street.
  • There is 7 or 8 turns left on the peace with England. I would wipe them out afterwards.
  • You can get Oil from Japan (trade them refining first). Alternatively, conquer a source in France. There are ships near London, and some under construction. There are cavs and infantry near London. The cav armies unfortunately do not fit on the ships, the sword army does, if you want it.
  • Dover is slowly losing food.
  • There is a ship in Frankfurt (to supply Norwich), there are two empty armies (for panzers?) in Berlin.
  • workers can be used for forestry and not much else. Perhaps ship some over to Norwich to speed up growth?

The save

Roster:
Own - up
KB - on deck
Renata - on honeymoon (?)
Leha - waiting
zyxy - just played

Executive summary again (almost finished writing this I hit the exit button by accident, you'd think that wouldn't happen, but here we are):
Greece is building UN, started turn 272, and will finish on turn 284. ouch. we need to steal techs, because we need panzers to chomp greece until we're 25% something. Research is slow, like 10 turn techs while losing lots of gpt. I've set up a defense plan if a steal fails. Here it is:

Every spot with an infantry needs fortress, barricade, and more infantry. That way, no Greek units can enter without the possibility of being ZoCed.

Here's the save. Good luck!

You could of course write the log in Notepad first....

Anyway:
KB - up
Leha - on deck
zyxy
Own

Bah, UN is nothing. I remember Goz 8 back in the day, the AI was building SETI when we discovered Industrialization

It does look to be a tough situation nonetheless, I'll see what I can do with it. Got it.

Preturn- I moves some troops about. I assume the Galleon to the south is our might French invasion force  I declare and move into their waters.

I play around with our cities and by converting most of our specialists into scientists, I manage to lower research to 70% while still getting Combustion in 8 at +30gpt.

T1 1430

I land our force to settler near the French Oil. I further fortify the line.

T2 1435

Well, our expedition is slaughtered by French swordsmen. That was smart. I load up a new force of 6 infantry, a settler and an artillery and send it south.

T3 1440

Greeks now have TOW :vomit:

I know I didn't really consult the team on this, but I have been in the sitatuin before, and I think we should get to Communism now, as we're going to have to fight heavily to get out of this. The WW will be wretched with Republic and also our economy dies with every unit we produce.

We get a nice long time to think about it, of course. I'll play it out though.

T5 1450

Greece completes Manhattan Project :nuke:

T7 1460

Greece has Mechs :vomit:

T9 1470

Greece completes UN, no vote is held. Greece starts Internet.

T10 1475

China and France sign MPP. China destroys Sumeria.

T12 1485

We become Commies! I optimize us as best I can, and we look pretty darn good. We can support about 80 more units before we hit the limit

Summary

After we research Combustion, I would go to full out cash and plant spies and steal the rest of our techs. Our French invasion force is nearly there, be warned that China will declare on us once we enter their waters though.

Please go ahead. I cannot play until Friday.

I'll be curious to see what communism looks like, never used it.

The French invasion force was meant to be larger, there were two ships on my turns, and some in production as well...

The SPHQ is three turns from completion in Minas Morgul, IIRC. Communism looks very, very nice. Imagine every city with no more than 5-6 shields corrupted. Even our crap tundra villages are able to get 5-6 shields now. Not too mention no war weariness, insanely good spies, and a ridiculous amount of unit support.

Our invasion force still isn't great, but we should have six infantry and an arty ready to land. We just need to survive the first onlaught, settle a town, and rush walls and barracks and we'll be fine. With six infantry, we should be able to land right by the oil and hold out. We don't have enough troops to spare at the moment to completely roll them over. If we manage to steal Flight and get an airport there, then we'll be doing fine. Speaking of flight, we're going to need it badly so we can get some air defense up, as we're going to be eaten alive by Greeks bomber once the war starts. I wouldn't doubt a good deal of cruise missiles either. Just hopefully no :nuke:

Preturn

Goddamnit, oil makes so much problems.
Also China is going to be superpower and we'll have to deal with it after Greece (assuming
we manage to beat Greece)
Our research pace sucks, hire some scientists - get Combustion in 5 turns instead of 6
Hit enter

IT

Greece gets SETI

1490 AD (1)

Our six infantries land in France

IT

Three french MDI's impale themselves on our JI promoting it to Elite without
as much as scratching it
China declares on us.

1495 AD (2)

Hmm...combustion in 2 turns now. That's because Japan has it now.
Build New Heidelburg in France. We can't cash rush in communism

1500 AD (3)

Errr...there's something extremely strange. Look

Some kind of bug??
Anyway, we have oil :) For one gold :)

IT

Get MGL in New Heidelburg, but one inf dies

1505 AD (4)

Get combustion, start MassPr (maybe AI will go for flight, then we'll trade it)
Order transports and destroyers in all our sea cities while we have this wonderfull
opportunity
Form inf army in New Heidelburg
Try the "oil trick" for gems with Japan. Doesn't work now :(

1510 AD (5)

Hordes of pikes and MDI's near New Heidelburg.
Our new and improved transports hurry with reinforcements

IT

Comrades, I have surprise for ya.
We lose inf army to swords and MDI's
New Heidelburg is history now.

1515 AD (6)

Revenge force will be ready next turn

1520 AD (7)

Revenge force is on it's way
China still refuses to talk

1525 AD (8)

Japan has flight. I maximize research.
We have to get MP first at all cost

IT

Greece has Internet

1530 AD (9)

Dang it, Japan has MP.
Take research back to normal.
Panzers first!!! Flight can wait.

IT

Greece sneak attacks us!
Boys, those guys pack some heavy guns.
I counted 10 cruise missles mashing our infantries
Luckily there were about 5 bombers only
countless hordes of MI,tanks and TOW enter our territory

1535 AD (10)

Can't buy anyone into MA against greeks.
But sign peace with China
Panzers can wait - form cav armies
Greece should get some serious damage - they will be more willing to sign peace

What can I say.
I've lost 4 armies trying to raze Marathon (they send lots of units through its airport)
One wounded MI killed two cav armies - RNG was extremely cruel.
Situation is really bad.
There's something strange with this game - Greece is way too powerfull.
And this 1 gold oil deal.......
