How close is our 50-turn run on the second tier tech? Has anyone gotten it yet?

I think Brazil is the only civ to the east of us Plus they have burned there initial troops. I do want to hit them soon. If they need iron we have the edge in battle. Does anyone else want iron? I hate to make our best target stronger.

The next tech is still 20+ turns away. Nobody has it. We can hope to get a tech with gold of course and maybe meet a civ in the east.

How about trading elephants to Japan?

No issues with trading with Japan.

I also hope our enslavers knock a few more warriors out when Brazil brings there troops home.

Currently, both got a lot of spear led stacks that seems to pass each other in our land. So, far I managed to convert only 1 warrior. Not going to attack healthy spears, too risky.

I'd say pass on that particular trade. We'll want to be building Braves with that Iron in order to attack Brazil (if it's still the best target) in another 20 turns or so.

I'm fine with trading elephants to Japan, though. The extra gold will be helpful.

Pre-Turn

I MM a little to optimize production, growth and income
Japan and Brazil fighting in Japanese territory over an invisible unit. Japan loses two units

Turn 1 - 900BC
I am surprised nobody complained about our intruder units
I start to mine the fur forest, it will be in time for border expansion.

IT Our units get booted from Japan and Brazil
the booted spear at Brazil gets attacked by an invisible unit but survives

Turn 2 - 860BC
A Brazilian warrior that separated from the group joins our workforce :)
For the lack of other targets, I catch a scout too

In the north, we connect elephants

IT Our capital gets a new worker, am enslaver and Royal Stables

Turn 3 - 820BC
Montreal goes for a quick national flag while emphasizing growth

An enslaver defeats a Brazilian chariot but doesn't enslave it :(
I swap Toronto to a forge as the slavery would disable the cultural growth

IT Japan and Brazil continue to run at each other without real fights
India finishes Hinduism

Turn 4 - 780BC
Montreal starts a forge now

Writing is doubtful for Brazil, the only tech we could get a 2 fer for
when we throw in a worker and iron, we're almost there (just testing)

IT It looks as if we might be able to snatch some workers in that war soon, if we get lucky
In the north, our spear gets attacked by America but survives

Turn 5 - 740BC
we get the Great Iron Mine, hope the money from its mine will help us
Calgary starts walls

MM Vancouver which just grew to finish its forge in 1 turn
we now make 17 gpt

IT More fighting between Japan and Brazil

Turn 6 - 700BC
Toronto's borders have grown to include the furs now
Japan has construction but no more gold (they had 800), there must be a trading partner east

No deal with Brazil for writing as agreed.

IT Calgary's borders expand

Turn 7 - 660BC
We can actually get gold (luxury), 5 gold and writing for elephants from Japan.
I manage to get mysticism for writing, furs and 25 gold from America,
There was no way to get trade from them

Since we are on 30% luxury, I employ a single scientist in Toronto (had been a clown so far)
We can in fact afford 20% luxury and our income is at 34gpt

two cities are building temples anyway and the capital will start with a thrid next turn
I get another slave from a lone Japanese warrior

Turn 8 - 620BC
Montreal gets its forge and starts a temple
I decie to switch Calgary from walls to furs supply center. We can used every penny at this stage of the game

IT we lose the spear near Brazil to an invisible unit
Arabs finish Hanging Gardens

Turn 9 - 580BC
Calgary goes back to walls after finishing the supply center

IT lots of fighting between japan and Brazil, but no opportunity to attack wounded units
Australia finishes Indigenous Mythology
we get a clan

Turn 10 -540BC
Montreal has grown and needs to employ a scientist before the temple is done next turn.
We actually need units to escort the settler. I had forgotten about it :(

I take a spear off a worker stack to escort the settler towards the new settling place
However, our capital needs to switch to unit production after its temple next turn.
The good thing is, it makes currently 20 spt, one turn spears and should definitely produce quite a few
to protect our enslavers too.

I left one enslaver active. I suggest to wait for the American warrior to approach and take it out

The empire:
In the east, we have a few units trying to squeeze between Japan and America in the hope of finding more civilizations.

Calgary starts walls
Glad to see those going up. After last game I am far more paranoid about the early game.

Japan has construction but no more gold
Interesting - if nobody else has that gold, then we have at least one more civ to find our land mass.

I decide to switch Calgary from walls to furs supply center.
I suspect there could be multiple land masses. We are good for now, but will need to be careful not to burn too many of these. We will need the ability to connect to other land masses at some point.

I take a spear off a worker stack to escort the settler towards the new settling place
With Brazil lacking iron that horse and pig spots looks even better. I suspect Brazil may have their eye on it.

However, our capital needs to switch to unit production after its temple next turn.
I agree 100%.

ROSTER:

Not sure how much the game will get slowed down by the holidays coming up.

Nice progress.

Trading for Mathematics would be nice so we could have a second city building veteran troops.

Here is a dot map. The red dot is the location I like best. Yellow dot is second choice to get horses. Blue dot (works best with red dot) is for the future as a ship building site site.

My vote is red dot first. Zero culture overlap. Horses and wheat in 1st ring. 2 spears to start as defense, and instant walls. Brazil will most likely send all enslavers to that city, so we need to be paranoid.

Seeing the gold in Brazil's territory makes them better to invade. I will appreciate another luxury.

The yellow spot might be viable if it should be necessary to build a naval construction City at the two whales one cow spot. In the other hand, for the northern sea the spot with two hills and two fish north of Calgary might be better.

@Greebley - may be time to update your signature. ;)

I have played a few turns, but feel we are really hurting due to a lack of boats for contacts. With only 3 contacts we are not able to trade as well.

I propose hitting the following spot instead on the map below (both it and red dot are 2 turns away).

Note that we don't get Horses as soon but there is a second Horse north of us that is unlikely to be claimed first. We practically surround it so could take any town placed there.

I didn't want to switch without team discussion, but I don't think we will be able to explore further so we have to wait for civs to come to us (but survive the Enslavers is hard) without boats.

I don't like delaying horses for our upcoming war with Brazil. However, I also agree the lack of contacts is a killer. The suspicion is at least one more in range of Japan due to the cash drain that happened.

I agree to the new city provided we build walls first before starting up ships. That city will become the new point for Brazil and enslavers. The new spot still does have some food even if it will take a while to get irrigation to it. If there was no food at that spot, it would be a harder decision.

Let us pray red dot survives

I dont think we need horses that early, the initial horsemen are pretty useless. As we have iron, we got the unit of choice to attack Brazil. This can be coupled with the chariots we get from the stable anyway.
