As typical, I had a few rejected starts. This is going to be very difficult. The odds of surviving in the center row of the map are very low. We need to be toward the top or bottom. Other rejects were starting all plains tiles, and mountain choked.
I also realized that coastal start sucks. We get to many contacts via boat. We don’t need 5+ enemies before my initial set is done.

4000 BC (0)
I need archers above all for some offense. I also want to build Slaver’s Hut ASAP. Research starts on warrior code.

3750 BC (5)
It looks like the coast may be close. After border expansion, I see a water tile.

3200 BC (16)
I didn’t want to find another civ this early. :(
War #1 has already begun. There capitol must be close.

2950 BC (21)
The Australian warrior has been found.
(IT) They attack, and kill one of our warriors. (0-1)

2900 BC (22)
Our warrior barely kills the Australian warrior. (1-1)
(IT) Despite being a Pangea, Australia lands a warrior near Delhi.

2800 BC (24)
I kill an Australian warrior. (2-1)
Another warrior has to head back to heal.

2750 BC (24)
Bombay is founded. A flag is started to get the wheat inside our borders.
(IT) Carthage completes the Harbor or Carthage.

2620 BC (28)
Australia now has $75. The have made contact with another civ. In addition, they are now ahead in tech.

2500 BC (31)
Warrior code is complete. Research starts on masonry for walls.
(IT) Turkey has found us. What a mess. I didn’t want two enemies this soon.

2460 BC (32)
Bombay switches to a regular archer due to the arrival of Turkey.
Delhi switches from pre-build of granary to Slaver’s Hut due in 5 turns.
(IT) Arabia completes Ishtar Gate.
Australia now lands a warrior by Bombay.

2380 BC (34)
I kill both warriors by Delhi. One was scary dropping to 1 HP. (4-1)

2340 BC (35)
Slaver’s Hut is completed. It is time to build archers.

2180 BC (39)
The regular archer (no promotion) from Bombay barely kills the Australian warrior on a hill. (5-1)

2020 BC (43)
I have found a border for a civ. I am hoping it is Australia.

1980 BC (44)
(IT) Australia lands another warrior near the capitol.

1940 BC (45)
Our regular archer barely kills the Ottoman archer. (6-1)

Madras is founded. Our economy appreciates the new city. Troop cost is killing us.

1900 BC (46)
Our first enslaver arrives. He kills the Australian warrior on the hill. We get a new worker. (7-1)

1820 BC (48)
(IT) Washington completes the Pyramids.

1780 BC (49)
We lost 2 archers killing an Australian spear. (8-3)
We do get to kill the Australian settler being escorted. That really slows down Australia, and got us another worker.
(IT) South America completes Stonehenge.

1740 BC (50)
Our enslaver kills another Australian warrior. (9-3)
(IT) Brazil completes Mausoleum of Mausollos.

1660 BC (52)
(IT) Australia gets cute and lands an enslaver by Delhi.

1620 BC (53)
The Australian enslaver is killed. (10-3)
We gained another worker. :)
(IT) Tobacco is connected. That is the first luxury for our people.

1540 BC (55)
Our elite archer kills and Australian archer. (11-3)
(IT) Our next research project is the wheel. It comes with free units and royal stables. It will answer the question if we have horses.

1500 BC (56)
Our regular archer kills an Australian archer and is promote to veteran. (12-3)
(IT) Britain completes the Colossus.
Turkey finally sends more troops.

1460 BC (57)

1420 BC (58)
Our enslaver kills a Turkish warrior and promotes to elite.

1380 BC (59)

1340 BC (60)
The assault on Sydney begins.
The first archer kills a spear, and promotes to elite. (14-4)
The regular archer dies. (14-5)
The elite archer kills a spear. (15-5)
We capture Sydney.

Our initial lands:

The current front line:

Summary:
I went 10 above my normal. I wanted to see the situation with Sydney resolve. Its capture means we have a decent shot.
Our economy is suffering big time due to unit costs. The capture of Sydney got us back to 20% science. Getting the grapes connected may let the luxury rate drop. Anytime we get a decent amount of cash we need to temp up the science rate.

The warrior by the pigs needs to come back down south. It is time to define the rest of our shoreline.

I hope the Greebley will be able to wipe out Australia. After that, we start a slow exploration for Turkey.

The spear parked by the pigs and elephants is for our next city. The settler has already arrived.

What sucks is too much of our area is coastal. We have a higher risk of getting stuck with contact via exploring boats.

I can tell it is AW. I’ve been thinking far higher than normal for the first set.

This was quick with the start of the next game. Good luck to all participants in that succession game. :)
This game could become a really demanding task. What difficulty level are you playing and how many civs are in that game?

Btw.: LKendter, your sig isn´t updated yet. :D

AWM as in Monarchy. ;-)
Full 32 civs. It looks like 1 zapped T1, as game as 30 remaining. Should be 29 soon.

The key will be limiting contact. Turkey was inactive enough that I could concentrate on Australia.

LKendter, I made a post about your new succession game, combined with a link to it, in the CCM2 thread.

Looks like a decent area, as long as there is not a lot of early contact. GL should be interesting.

Ok I got it but will likely wait until the weekend to play so there is a bit of time to make comments.

Capturing cities translates to more troops so I agree that is our focus. Agree Great Library is a large boon if we could get it. I remember it being back to gaining techs.

Capturing cities also supports more troops. Our economy is dying due to troop cost. Getting some interior cities that can concentrate on buildings will really help.

I hope we capture several workers in the Australian capitol. I'd like to keep the worker gathering going well. As we get larger the demand on road building gets higher. I didn't have any time to improve tiles.

Good start, especially when Sidney is added to our growing hegemony.

What about moving the next settler site 1 sw to get the Hardwood in addition to the Elephant and Pig? I think we need Hardwood to the build Ballista Workshop.

That is fine by me. I recalled mostly ships needing hardwood. Forgot about that one.

Hardwood is needed for WWI aircraft, too.

Interesting situation so I am deciding to stop and discuss:

In the image below the blue unit is a Settler/Spear pair. The stack next to it (has already moved) is a Spear/Enslaver.
Our settler is on the road and is 2 turns away. I think it can settle first.

Which should I do:
1) We settle first and let Enemy settle elsewhere and we take city when size 2.
2) Let AI settler settle near stuff and we choose somewhere else.
3) Attempt to kill settler beforehand using Enslaver.
4) other?

I think I prefer 1. The AI will not likely settle in the spot we want but if we kill the settler we have one less city most of the game. I think it will choose to settle nearby our city, probably on the peninsula.

Tell me your preference, and I will go with the majority (or decide if tied).
