And what if you use two screens
Then use Alt + Print Screen like I said above.

I.e. Press and hold down the "Alt" key on your keyboard. Before releasing the "Alt" key, press the "Print Screen/SysRq" key (which often has a slightly different name).

You will only get a screenshot of the current window in your copy and paste buffer.

That functionality comes standard with Microsoft Windows O/Ss, so it applies to windows/applications that are not Civ 4, but it equally applies to Civ 4.

This step doesn't make the screenshot-taking process painless, but it at least means that you don't have to spend the time cropping your images.

In the worst case, when you open Paint, it already starts with a large-sized background that is larger than the pasted image. To resolve that issue, do the following:
Open Paint
Choose the Image -> Attributes option
Press "1," "Tab," "1," "Enter" (without the commas), which is just a quick way of setting the Width and Height of the current image to 1 x 1 pixels.
Close Paint... if you are asked to save your changes, say "No"
Re-open Paint

By having closed Paint in this manner, Paint will "remember" that your "preferred default size" is 1 x 1 pixels

Next, capture a Civ 4 screenshot using Alt + Print Screen
Switch back to Paint and press Ctrl + v, to paste the screenshot
When Paint tells you that "The image in the clipboard is larger than the bitmap. Would you like the bitmap englarged?," click on the "Yes" option
Close Paint
When you are asked to save your changes, say "No"
Open Paint
Press Ctrl + v
Notice that the Width and Height are perfectly-sized and therefore you will not need to perform cropping and you will not need to be prompted with the "The image in the clipboard is larger than the bitmap. Would you like the bitmap englarged?" message.
Enjoy
