Politics for Real- A Realpolitik AAR

Most of the time, I found a city on turn 2 if it´s in a bad location and/or near a good one. Turn 3 at max, not when the AI already has axemen!

Alright so someone has to step up, preferably someone Cull named. Hopefully he will return later in the game and try again.

Opposition level has gone to Minor.

The Student has replaced the master! I sieze power for the glory of the Sith Ninja-Pirates! My orders would be thus;

- Plant the city as close to the romans as possible but try to include some fish (those littles water squares) for some food.
- Build a worker straight away
- Tech to bronze working to cut the forests.

Plan: We found close. Chop some military units and rush the sucker! Who's with me!? Yarrrrgh!

EDIT: (i have no idea if i can sieze power or what but i figure things seem un-planable at the moment so we may as well knock out a early civ. The AI can't usually handle rushes. If anyone else wants to sieze power and has a different plan, step up.)

I support your bid to power and your plan.

Huh?

Well you are now president, but there are quite afew problems with your plan. The romans are all the way in ITALY. We are in RUSSIA. Unless you want to wait 20-30 trurns to settle, we wont be near rome. We only met their unit.

The rest of your plan is fine. Plant a city next to the fish, and build a worker. Start chopping the forests (do you want mines built in their place?) and build some military units (you will need them). Where do you want the second settler to go?

Hey is the opposition going to make a showing? Bobbtjoe your opposition strength level is suffering from your abscense.

Huh? So this is a World Map then? That must mean we are on the western edge of Siberia, if we ran it Romans within 10 terms.

Yeah its Earth 18 with personal modifications to it. Your started a little east of the usual russian starting position.

Alright then.
An axeman on turn ten :wow: !
  • Well, it takes about 6 turns to research Bronze Working (Rome starts with mining)
  • It would have to take more than 4 turns to build it, so they adopted slavery and rushed it (2 turns)
  • That leaves 2 turns for the axeman to meet our settler

So either the information you guys are giving us is wrong, or that Rome is EXTREMELY close to us. This means that a rush is possible given that the turns to get to Rome would be small, and if we start early (I'd recomend turn 1) our odds of success would be much greater. I'd also like to mention that going ten turns without founding a city was a HORRID mistake and the Coalition of Intelligence is to blame. Just putting that out there...

I see, i had believed that we had stumbled close to them. Okay , just re-checked everything.

Sit-Rep
The lone scout to the north has found nothing but woods and barbarians. The squad heading west has apparantly left us. We have been informed that they have founded a city without our agreement in the deep wasteland. It is assumed that they have turned barbairan. The worker has stayed loyal but is now all alone.

The squad to the south is made up of a warrior, worker and two settlers. We have also nearly spotted a sea of some kind or a huge lake. The land is also now becoming plains instead of tundra. (we are probably at the caspian sea or the black sea... most likely the later as we have met rome.)

-

Southern Plan
There no point going just for the fish as the starting techs are hunting and mining for russia. We couldn't even use the sea tiles for food if we wanted too.

Instead move south west one tile and and another tile west. Unfortunatly there is now a barbarian city north of us so we need some distance and the sea placement will help once we tech fishing. Found and start pumping out warriors untill the happyness cap is reached then build 2 workers.

The second settler will stay for now. once some spare warriors are pumped out send it out to find a better city position with 2 bodyguard warriors. Head towards the romans so even if we don't find perfect land we can use the second city as a forward attack base.

-

The Northern plan
Bring the scout back to meet up with the defencless worker. It will then be escorted back to the new city. The Scout will then try to find the romans.

-

The Worker Plan
Nothing to begin with. Unfortunatly we have workers when we can't use them. With only hunting and minding they will just have to sit tight for now. The first techs we will get will probably be bronze working so they will just chop and mine as soon as they can. try to concentrate on the tiles directly around the city first. We don't want barbarians taking advantage of the defence bonus in the trees. destroy them.

Once we have roads and the BFC has been upgraded, sent a worker with a bodyguard to make a road all the way to rome. The Great road will help speed up conquest.

The Tech plan
Check if there is any resources in the black sea... it will be doubtful. If there is research fishing first. If not then go bronze working then fishing for some food. Then go for the wheel to get roads. (More stuff for the workers to do and will help defence and rapid rush) After this we will probably have to go for archery unless we get lucky and find copper. If we do then we will have axemen for defence then sailing would be next for a lighthouse to speed up growth.

The Miltary plan
The pumped out warriors will defend and scout the land around our borders. Keep the first two in the city. Send the third to scout everything in a 5 tile radius around the city once done it will either spy on a close threat (barbarians) or defend the workers in the field. The 4th and 5th warriors will guard the second settler as it proceeds to find rome. (hopefully the scout should have found it by now)

On the Opposition
Yes unfortunatly there weren't any good choices to begin with. Just bad ones. Cull reasoned that the land wouldn't have been made completly inhabitable. It's meta game logic. He assumed if the starting position was that bad... but we were given the choice of wether to found or not instead of Arya doing it himself... And Arya was pointedly saying to think carefully so as not to ruin the best city... then there must be something better out there, because a choice with no good outcomes isn't a choice for the player it's just a power play by the GM

That's why Cull got annoyed and stepped down when Arya started outright saying in communication that things WERE that bad and he was stupid not to found, i assume we were supposed to be tempted by the lone fish lakes...

Anyway luckily we at least managed to make it to the plains and sea and get some food tiles. Otherwise we'd be stuck with a size one city untill fishing anyway. (Unless the map was suddenly changed via worldbuilder)

And it takes 6 turns on quick to research mining. If things are fair (and it would be stupidly cruel if things weren't) then the AI will be taking awhile to get techs as well unless they have a special resource close by.

-

Note to Arya:
I'm assuming things were done this way because of some reasoning that would allow a greater focus on the storytelling right? Struggle to survive in the wilderness sounds better as a story then the traditional base civ opening. Perhaps a note should be made on the frontpage to let people know, all there is so far is a line that russia will have a "hard start" but it's lost in the paragraph and not expanded upon.

-

I think thats everything. Master Ravus has spoken.

Got the plan, i will play the turnset tonight. How many turns do you want? 15 or 30? You have 50 turns total since you are the 'first' administration besides Cull's.

I will get to the front page tonight as well.

Yes the lakes were supposed to be tempting. In my test game i got to POP 6 under ther happy AND food cap and with good production from all the hills around them. Also, i kind of 'assisted' the romans....nothing major, since they already had an axemen, but i just deleted it from where it was and WBed it near us. You guys are a long way from us. You are correct when you say its the black sea, but its kind of different.

The scout is like 15 turns from where our south group is. Another 10 from the west worker. These are guesses.

My bad. I have been busy recently, both with the other RP and with RL. Hopefully i can get one out by tonight/tomorow morning.

Yeah sorry guys, but the original RP, and RL issues take priority. Ill force myself to play it tonight at least. Update may have to wait a day or 2 depending on imageshack and my schedule.
