I was told to post questions here, so ....

I refrained from posting an article because it contained the word: denazification, as the excuse Russia presented for invading Ukraine.

If you include the the word Nazi or fascist in your post regardless of the context, we will award you 1 infraction point for each usage and the points will be active for 3 months. That includes any variations of the words too. If you include a media headline that uses either word, that will count.

Not sure if that counts as a "variation".

Does it?

Clearly the mods did not see all the complications that would be arriving fast-ish.

You are wrong. "Denazification" banter back and forth has been a regular source of mocking, sarcasm, and trolling by both sides of the war. It is mostly old news. The ongoing use of Nazi and fascist and their variations (including denazification) has been a source of bad posting, name calling and general ill will. Our goal is to reduce the rancor. There is lots of things to talk about regarding this war that do not involve invoking Nazis and fascists. We hedged on the posting of articles. @Ziggy Stardust post the headline of the article here please (or the entire link).

So it's against the rules to mention them at all, regardless of context?

This might make discussing Ukrainian nationalism somewhat difficult within the thread (a crucial pillar as to the origins of this conflict), when considering that the Ukrainian government has to some degree decided to embrace the people who have fought within what one may consider "national socialist collaborator divisions". The events in Canada recently and the fact Ukraine has been silent on them seem to demonstrate this. This isn't a really helpful solution and it appears to be more in favour of getting rid of those that moderation considers undesirable for the discussion. In which case, why bother with that measure?

In the war news thread, pretty much. There is no restriction on starting a new thread to address a topic related to Nazis or fascists.

Yes, it will. The words have been abused in the the past and used to make personal attacks and create ill will. There is nothing stopping folks from creating a new thread on topics related to those words. If you want to discuss denazification of the Ukraine, start a new thread on it.

I would have to look for it, it wasn't a recent article. The term was used as an aside within the second paragraph, not the headline. The article itself was about troop logistics.

Not to bothered about not being able to post the article, but the question is more for when it happens again.

So would it be okay to discuss the reprehensible behavior of a member of the local Catholic school board who compared modern teaching of tolerance and inclusion of LGBT people to German children being indoctrinated to support the Nazis in the (pre)WWII years?

And what about the colossal blunder just made in our Parliament? Both use the word "Nazi" and both are related to WWII. I have no idea what "war news thread" you're talking about. If it's about Russia/Ukraine or some American war thread, I don't read those and don't know what anyone is saying there.

Thanks. I'd say that your link most likely would have been fine. Our goal is steer the discussion away from inflammatory posting towards news discussions.

Thanks.

Not very likely I'll post an article that isn't allowed 8 times.

Or maybe I will, and you guys will prevent me from wasting effort on that thread for a week. Maybe that's not a punishment I actively would try to avoid :)

Valka, this ^^^ has nothing to do with the use of Nazi and fascist in the Ukrainian War thread. The fact that you don't know what we are talking about is a good reason to do some research before you enter the discussion. this is the thread to which this discussion applies. Nowhere else.

Given that this was quoted upthread:

it's not unreasonable to think that these words are infractible regardless of context.

Given the uncertainty of the OP in this matter, I sought clarification.

Your rudeness and condescension and "shut up, Valka" attitude are unwarranted, undeserved, unprofessional, and NOT APPRECIATED.
