RK-08: Atomic Betty

lurker's comment: The only way to get the fish in the fat cross is to move the settler twice. Settle in place; the only tile you're 'wasting' is the coastal one and you still get three coins out of that one. Run the pro/con analysis of settling in place. Consider how many forests you have to chop.

I'm more interested in your builds and research. :mischief:

nice start.

We'll see. I bet the build well be a standard military build until Sci Meth, so nothing special until the nuke.

I agree with not getting the fish in first city. But is there any other opinion on capital city? It's not just wasting tiles, think, a coastal city can build a harbor, which is additional health and trade route income, along with building sea vessels.

If there is no other opinion in a few hours, I will settle in place and start the game.

Sorry for the delays, guys. If you have any more opinions on starting position for this game, you can post them now and in the next 10-12 hours before I can play.

Settling in place seems like a plan.

Fish is just fish. We can get that later.

For now, I'd like to see us grab that Stone. We have the chance to quickly build both the GW and the Oracle, hopefully in seperate cities. If we can get the GW fast, we'll have no barb issues, and get a Engineer to build us the Pyramids (or build Pyramids and get something else). I would prefer to build pyramids.

I also assume I'm playing, and going 5th in the rotation.

Subscribed. Interesting notion - Lob nukes at your opponents and then win. I like it :D I think gaining control of the U.N. to stop nuclear proliferation from passing is a great touch  Good luck folks! :) Oh, and I would settle in place - forget the fishies and the coastal city for now.

Just this idiot's two cents... ;)

Welcome to the pack then, vra.

Thanks for the tips and confidence, lurkers.

I'll play initial turns later (around 6 hours).

Allright! Back from the weekend oblivion!
Robo, I like the idea of coastal capitol. If we settle 1 NW we get 3 resources on the BFC and with the 2nd border pop we grab the stone without bothering with a city up there if we don't want/need it. We lose 1 forest and the cows, but gain coastal access and, if my eyes are still ok, we get a hill capitol. Good for defense!
Talking about tech, we have fishing and mining, right? We need agriculture, masonry and animal husbandry to work the resources we can see. If we produce a worker on the capitol we need at least Agri unless we want him to learn how to swim! But I think BW is always the way to go, forcing us to produce a Warrior. If we make the capitol coastal, we may need Sailing early too, for Lighthouses.

Newbie question: How do I enable autolog without loading HOF mod? I'm assuming Robo created the game without it.

Well I wouldn't know how to mod the autolog since I myself don't use it (even with the HOF MOD). I know someone helpful has the answers. Anyone? ...

Playing now.

Turn 0:
Because there are move votes for it, I settle in place.
Hut gives us maps.
London starts a Worker. Should finish same time as Bronze Works.

Turn 6:
Hut gives us maps... AGAIN!

Turn 14:
Bronze Working is in. No copper in sight.
Start research on Hunting. Don't want to gamble on AH.
Buddhism founded.

Turn 15:
Worker up, start Warrior.
Also chopping trees to go to Settler.

Turn 16:
Meet Ragnar.
Hinduism founded.

Turn 20:
Hunting in, start Archery.

Turn 23:
Meet Frederick.

Turn 25:
Capital grows to size 2.

IBT: Warrior beats Panther.

Turn 26:
Meet Alexander.

Turn 30:
My turns are done!

London:
2 turns to population size 3
2 turns to Warrior
Settler in Queue

Summary:

Strategy for FB
(I'm being detailed here, FB is quite new)
1. I have NOT revolted to Slavery yet. Revolt to Slavery only when whipping is needed.
2. Warrior will finish, then Settler. Escort Settler to new site.
3. Build around total 4 archers. Then worker maybe. Don't forget, this is Raging Barbarian World (tm).
4. Research path could be Agri (to claim resouces) then Wheel-Pottery (we want cottages to take advantage of Financial soon) then Animal Husbandry (claim other resources, pray for horse) then Writing (library to run scientists). Remember this: improvements now, road later.

I'll try to make a map shortly.

Turnsets would be 30-20-20-20-20 (I just played, I'm 30) for the first round.
Then everyone would play 10-15 turns until the end of the game. Play as much or as little as you want.

Roster:
1. Robo Kai
2. fbelintani (up for 20)
3. Woobi (on deck for 20)
4. frankcor
5. vra379971

So let's discuss where to put the next city.

Sick and tired of Dotmaps (tm)?

Here's the X-Map (tm)!

Got any opinions? I can't think of any better... unless horses or iron are found...

EDIT: DA SAVE

luerker comment (blabla):

I'm following this game with a close I, I just know it's going to get funny :)

Waaait. I'd like to go for Masonry a.s.a.p. and put our next city in the nothern stone purple area so we can start cranking out the Wonders (or at least the Pyramids, GW, Oracle and Great Libiary.)

We'll be running Representation, generating Warlords like no tomorrow, having no issues with barbs ever again, get something with a Oracle sling, and tech our way to Fisson so fast the other civs won't see us coming.

So, the short wishlist - Get a worker, get a settler and found at purple, and then get one founded at the yellow X while doing some fogbusting. And, I'm on deck for 20.

Well, I kinda Agree with Robo that Purple isn't much a priority now. I can't check the save now, but from the screenshots, I think that spot is safe for us. And the city up there won't be able to grow without food resources. Maybe when calendar comes in for that pack of silks (?)....
Something I learned the hard way is that going Wonder-Happy won't lead you to victory... At least they won't lead ME to victory! :D
I can say that getting all this 4 wonders you mentioned is nearly impossible!! And a lot of luck is involved! The Oracle and The Pyramids are mutually exclusive IMHO. Add GW there and you have a soup of lost-by-one-turn wonders! :(
Although I think one of them with TGL is doable and desirable! :)
When I grab the save (maybe in about 6 hours) I'll take a better look at it. My instincts are telling me that settling Cyan would be better to absolutely safe Yellow and Purple from the AI, without OB. But that's just a newbie's instinct. :mischief:

If this was Monarch, I'd agree. But this is Prince. We can have our cake and eat it too I'd expect.

Here's my argument. We have a dream start on our hands here. Marble and Stone will double production of all the Wonders I've mentioned. And Lizzie's Philo trait would double our GPP's. We can have a Great Engineer in no time. Ah well :p

I'll work with whatever I'm handed =)

I like the yellow city...

In my experience it is very handy to have a second city that can basically pay for itself right off the bat...

Also, I don't know if we really needed to research archery so soon, it's only prince, what are we afraid of...

You guys says:
If this was Monarch, I'd agree. But this is Prince.
it's only prince, what are we afraid of.
I was getting my a$$ busted on Noble until last week!!! :)

@Woobi: Robo already got us Archery!

This is the official "GOT IT"! My first ever! :D
I may not be able to play later tonight, but I'll get to it tomorrow!

You were losing on Noble? 0.0

Anyways...I don't know why Archery so fast as well...no worries.

Very well. The Yellow City it is, we can pick up the Purple City next.

EDIT: BTW, I'd like to see a Worker first, so we can start using some of those techs we have lying around. That corn and rice aren't going to farm themselves :p
