SCENARIO: WWII in the Pacific REDUX

Week 49 1942 -
-Seishin lost again to to the Soviets! I keep forgetting about the Blitz attack of these Tanks. Twice the number of defenders is really needed to be certain of holding the cities, but I don’t have enough units to do this. :(
Sapporo unfortunately has fallen to the Yanks! Ugh this one is going to hurt!!! :cringe: Gotta get a Transport up there with a big enough force, I might not be able to retake for awhile.

Week 51 1942 - I’ve retaken Bangkok, :goodjob: not surprisingly the Forbidden Palace no longer exists in the city, so not that nice of a city anymore. It was a bloody battle though and I think I’m unlikely to hold it.
We take back Seishin from the Russkies! :goodjob: I’ve lost count how often this city has changed hands, but the population is now 1 and there are no improvements in the town anymore.
-I miraculous hold on to Bangkok!!! Whew! :) Had this city fallen, The Brits would likely had marched through Phnom Penh and Saigon. We were also able to hold on to Taiyuan after a big Communist attack. New Soviet attack on Harbin was repulsed.
Finally, the Nationalists who have very effectively been continually pounding Lost Hong with 2 Arty units have captured Hong Kong!

Current Military
41 Civil Militia (Immobile)
21 Nipponese Infantry
14 MG Battalions
3 Combat Engineers
8 Medium Tanks
9 Marines
4 Paratroopers
11 Artillery
0 Army

6 Transport
0 Submarines
6 Destroyers
2 Battleships
9 Heavy Cruisers
0 Yamato Battleships
1 Aircraft Carriers

0 Bombers
7 Fighter Bombers
2 Heavy Bombers
6 Flak

Due to the severe lack of ground units and the situation all over China, I still haven’t been able to replenish any of the Navy and Air Force units. The Medium Tanks have been extremely helpful in the battles in China, should’ve started building those earlier.

Week 1 1943 - I sent 3 Tank units to Hong Kong and we recaptured it! :goodjob: I’ve never actually Drafted units in Civ3, but I’ve gone ahead and drafted everywhere I could, so now I have a bunch of new Nipponese Infantry units.

-Large Soviet attack in Hsinking is repulsed!

Week 3 1943 - More drafting throughout where I can. The Soviets have been very quiet, except for their Bombers. Actually everyone has been bombarding us from the sky, in particular the Commonwealth. This is part of the flintlock patch!

-Aussie landing at Okaba, lots of MG with 2 Anzac Infantry.
Big Yank landing in Japan, 5 Tanks and 1 MG! They landed between Kyoto, Nagoya and Tokyo.

Week 5 1943 - Our not so great force of units lands at Sapporo! Not too confident about this group, but it’s all I could spare. Continue drafting many units throughout to defend against the Yanks! Airlift some MG Batts as well. There are 3 cities in danger from the Yank Tanks, including Tokyo so I have to load up all three cities with as many units as I can gather, unfortunately most of these are green Nipponese Infantry.

-we’ve Lost Hong Kong to the Nationalists once again, their sending their Light Tanks. I can never see those bastards coming through the Fog of War. Note, the Nationalists have a big 6 MG Batt stack with Arty on a hill separating the railroad from Hanoi to Hong Kong from which they’ve been continually blasting Hong Kong.
Defeated the Aussie at Okaba with no losses, but a bigger Aussie force landed at Port Moresby. I’ve got a couple of Marine units close by to reinforce though.
Grrrrr, Tokyo was attacked and taken!!!:mad: Thankfully the Yanks did not raze it, probably because the Adam Smith Trading Center is there. Capital moved to Jinan in China (because of all the drafting!) This could be a devastating blow, as I imagine all the Home Island cities will not be very productive anymore. What a game changer!! :(
Soviets send some more Tanks to Hsinking and also a bunch show up at the Mongolian border. All that travel time is probably why I hadn’t seen anything from them recently.

Week 7 1943 - attack on Sapporo failed spectacularly. We’re done here forever probably.
We wipe the Soviet Tanks outside of Hsinking, this is also a size 1 town after all the bombing and attacks.

-lone MG Batt outside Guadalcanal decided to attack and was defeated!
Marines held on to Port Moresby against Aussie attack. Hoping this isn’t the beginning of a bunch of Aussie attacks in Indonesia, or I’m going to be in more trouble!
It appears the Nationalists were also at war with the Tibetans, so I wasn’t getting their full attention. But now a huge Nationalist force of 7 Artillery, 12 MG Batts, plus a couple of Combat Engineers are seen heading to Batou! Oh snap!!!
7 more Soviet T-34 tank units arrive to the outskirts of Hsinking. These guys are on plains, so easy pickings for our Tank units. But still, they are keeping me busy and preventing me from launching a Tank attack to take back Hong Kong.

Week 9 1943 - Just realized I have to rebuild Battlefield Medicine as those Yanks destroyed it in Tokyo. Decide to start this in Seoul, which is now my most productive city. Rush build a Transport unit in Hue to send some Marine units to recapture Hanoi on the next turn!

-Massive Nationalist and Communist units all around Batou and Taiyuan, situation is a little dangerous right now.
10 Soviet tank units are now outside of the Hsinking plains and I’m running out of healthy units to fight them off!

Week 11 1943 - I changed my mind on attacking Hanoi, I’m going to need these Marines to fight against the oncoming Commonwealth tanks in Bangkok. Just discovered Atomic Theory, 8 more turns for Fission. I tell y’all this, I am absolutely going Nuclear once I get the bomb!!!
Huge tank battle in Hsinking, but I haven’t cleared out the Soviets yet. Draft a whole bunch of infantry to send to Batou.

-Huge Soviet attack in Manchuria in Hsinking and Harbin, they now sent more units into the this front. We’re now looking at a total of 11 T-34 units in the area. I am down to 4 Medium Tanks plus other units and they are all injured from all the battles.
Many drafted units were immediately killed in Batou, but we still held the town, barely! The Nationalists nearly captured Nanjing after I had sent a bunch of these defenders to Batou. Gonna have to bring some back, ugh.
Back in Indonesia, a large Aussie group lands in Palembang, this one is a goner. I’ve got a lonely Paratrooper defending and no way to reinforce! The Aussies sent another attacking group to Okaba once again, but it’s just 4 MG Batts. Not concerned about their attack, I got Marines nearby too!
The freaking Yanks in Sapporo have sent in a bunch of Heavy Bombers and are pounding us in Manchuria as well. Need to take back Sapporo or this will be constant aerial attacks.
It’s looking really dire now. I’m barely making around +200 gold per turn, not enough to rush build every time.

Week 13 1943 - Drafted a whole bunch more units to reinforce Manchuria! Our Marines destroyed completely the Commonwealth Tanks in Bangkok! :goodjob:

-wow there were some ferocious attacks on Batou, Hsinking, Harbinand even further north in Qiqihar. I lost a ton of units!! But we still held on the the towns, but now there are a total of 15 Soviet T-34 units and 2 CE in Manchuria. A little further south, the Nationalists are within striking distance of Jinan (new capital) Nanjing and Shanghai.
In Indonesia Pelambang was stolen by the Aussies! Okaba was also stolen by the Aussies, 3 naval ships were stationed there and now destroyed. Artillery captured by Aussies as well. Huge loss here as we couldn’t defend against the MG Batt attacks! :(

Week 15 1943 - We’ll the loss of Tokyo has definitely proven to be beyond devastating. I had a bunch of productive cities in Japan that have now grinded down. The cities in China around Jinan are not very productive, as I can’t mine any of the terrain there as it’s on the front lines and under constant attack.
There are now mass rioting throughout the empire as well. The nightmare scenario with the Aussies attacking Indonesia has come to fruition.
Oh well, let’s just push on through. I have to once again draft as many units as I can to send them to Manchuria and Batou and now to eastern China. I have also decided to build some new Arty units, I just can’t hold out much longer without it!
Disregard about drafting more units, I sent my Transport to Okinawa previously to pick up some units there, so I have no way of bringing in any new units from Japan to Manchuria, only 3 airports in the home islands, Major blunder here!!!

-Jinan has fallen to the Communists! They actually burned it to the ground, who knows where our capital is going now!!
Batou also was taken out by the Communist, this town was too burned to the ground! Ugh, they took 3 Arty units as well.

Hsinking couldn’t hold on any longer and was captured by the Soviets, along with its 3 artillery units, wow. They had enough units to take Harbin, but decided against it. Oh well, they’re probably going to take it on the next turn anyway.

Week 17 1943 - I’m down to 2 Tanks, 5 Arty units, 6 total naval vessels and 5 total aerial units. The sun is starting to set, I'm afraid! :( The new capital is Dalian.

-Phucket captured by Commonwealth, didn’t notice they landed a Tank there. I have a decent force nearby in Bangkok, I think I can take this back!
Harbin I’d captured by the Soviets after using my own Arty units! Huge movement of T-34’s now headed for Seshin.
Big Nationalist breakout in east China, 3 cities in danger of falling here.
My 1 hit point Marine unit survives the Port Moresby attack! Small victory! :smug:
Yank Tank landings in Tokyo.

Week 19 1943 - pretty much just scrambling, the empire is collapsing completely!!! :crazyeye:

-Kaifeng taken by the Communists and burned to the ground!
Soviet tank landings on the home islands.
Nanjing captured by the Nationalist.
Hangzhou captured by the Nationalist.
Aussie attack group landing at Kidat.
Tokyo captured by the Yanks again. :( Good bye Adam Smith Trading Center.

More good reports. I see how you are struggling against the hordes in China. Are you using artillery to good effect defensively? If you bombard the enemy units and manage to do at least one point of damage to many of them then those damaged units will retreat and heal. That should reduce the number of units attacking your outnumbered forces.

And yes if you can you need to build more planes and medium tanks.

If you bombard the enemy units and manage to do at least one point of damage to many of them then those damaged units will retreat and heal. That should reduce the number of units attacking your outnumbered forces.

Absolutely...that is the way to handle the Zombie Hordes in EFZI2 Elite :)

I wanted to limit my use of Arty for the IA’s sake and only have 3 per battle location, but there are so many battles throughout the map and I don’t have enough for all of them.

Also, I have noticed injured Soviet T-34’s still attacking cities, but it probably sees Nippon Infantry defending and calculate the risk is worth it.

Week 21 1943 - 3 turns till Fussion, I am determined to at least nuke someone! A single tank unit took back Nanjing! :)
Phucket taken back easily from the Commonwealth! Even destroyed a Battleship that was resting in there. :goodjob:

-CW troop landing at Guadalcanal.
Taiyuan finally falls to the Communists! :(
Akita is taken by the Soviets! :( I’ve got nothing there to fight back and the home island cities just can’t produce units with any speed anymore.
Nanjing is retaken by the Nationalists. :( Shanghai is completely surrounded and again no units available to send.
Kidat captured by the Aussies in Borneo. :( I’m going to be forced to airlift anything to protect my rubber and oil resources on this island!

Week 23 1943 - sent a bunch of conscripts to Seishin for a last stand against the Soviets.

-Guadalcanal canal survives the Commonwealth’s attack, we only had 1 unit defending! :crazyeye:
Communists tanks roll through Qingdao and burn it to the ground!
Seishin held, but it won’t for very long.
Shanghai taken over by the Nationlists! :(
Koepang taken by the Aussies! :(

Week 25 1943
-Seishin captured by Soviets!
Sendai captured by Soviets! :(
Kuala Lumpur captured by the Aussies! :(
Nagasaki captured by the Yanks! :(

Week 27 1943 - Fission is discovered! We have Uranium and we rush build an atomic bomb in Seoul!!!

-Mukden captured by Soviets! :(
Niigata captured by Soviets! :(

Week 29 1943 - Got the atomic bomb in Seoul, which is close enough to drop it on Vladivostok!!! :nuke::nuke::nuke: I want to see what the response will be before finally capitulating.

-Sibu captured by Commonwealth! :(
Peking captured by Communists, burned to the ground!
Commonwealth declared war on the Soviets! Ugh, why couldn’t that have happened earlier!!!:mad:
Xuzhou captured by Nationalists and they burned to the ground.
Waingapoe captured by Aussies. :(
Nagoya captured by Yanks and they burned to the ground.
No atom bomb dropped on us in return, which makes me think nobody had built one.

With that, our remaining units put their weapons down as the rising Sun sets forever.

Final Force:
25 Civil Militia (Immobile)
21 Nipponese Infantry (mostly drafted units)
10 MG Battalions
1 Combat Engineers
0 Medium Tanks
6 Marines
3 Paratroopers
3 Artillery
0 Army

2 Transport
0 Submarines
0 Destroyers
0 Battleships
0 Heavy Cruisers
0 Yamato Battleships
1 Aircraft Carriers

0 Bombers
2 Fighter Bombers
0 Heavy Bombers
1 Kamikaze (I would use these as soon as they came on)
4 Flak

Conclusion: So in hindsight, the single biggest factor that accelerated the collapse of the empire was the lost of the capital in Tokyo. In addition to that, I should have just taken Borneo and nothing else in Indonesia. Once I had my resources there, there wasn’t a good reason to overstretch before securing the cites on the front line with the Chinese and Soviets. Should have had move artillery groups of 3 all over China to properly defend. 3 Arty units is what I kept in Taiyuan and it held for the duration under constant attacks. Taking Honolulu was a good decision as they had the Women’s Suffrage wonder there. But really I just couldn’t produce enough units fast enough. The Soviets entered the war a lot more sooner than I thought they would.

scenario adjustments. Each turn should be 3 weeks instead of 2 weeks. Update the flintlock config file to allow Paratroopers movement after landing. I noticed not one single Marine units made an attack by the AI. Typically the AI likes doing this, so not sure what happened, they didn’t really need it anyway.

Got severely ill and with my boredom decided to mess with this scenario again…

Added the Thai and French Indochina Civs. The Thais are in alliance with Japan. More cities to fill up the gaps, I did use some current Chinese city names because I was getting so confused with the old names and finding them in Google Maps. Japanese Infantry now ignores Jungle terrain to help the AI move across Burma and Indonesia quicker. Only in the ‘Allies’ version.

Playing as the KMT going to hold myself to 5 Arty stack, unless I see the AI with a bigger one. Will only escort Worker units with Flak units. More realistic than escorting with Guerrilla units since the AI does not attack tiles with escorts.

Still haven’t fixed any of the graphics, so there are still Cannons and Riflemen all around. :crazyeye:

KMT Military

39 Civil Militia (immobile)
16 Cannon (immobile)

36 Infantry 5-5-1

1 Bomber
2 Flak

Population: 6,050,000 4th
Land Area: 35,000 6th

1941 - Week 49
Entered full mobilization right from the start, i ain’t got no time to be building Factories and Temples, this is a battle for survival!!

1941 - Week 52
Sending all Infantry to the front line cities. Building Workers, Artillery and 3 Flak units to protect the Workers. The rubber resource in Burma is our life blood. There are no MG Batts or Marines without this. Also note China cannot build Medium Tanks or Combat Engineers. I had to add this resource because our Allies never sold it to me on Sid Level! The cities of Kumming and Guiyang auto-produce a Chinese Guerrilla unit with a movement of 2 and I absolutely need them as China, so these 2 cities get priority too!
I start off quite stretched with limited units, so I decide straight away to pull back from Geiju, Nanning, Fuzhou, Xinyang and Yuncheng. We shall return!

KMT_1941-52n.jpg

KMT_1941-52s.jpg

-Nanning was lost to the Japanese, no doubt committing war crimes already in there.

Week 9
Japanese have set up Artillery units to hit Nanchang and Luzhou on every turn. I’ve got PTW style bombardment, so I expect these cities to turn into rubble soon.

Week 12
-Yuncheng lost in the north, this will bring a front line to the Communists! :( Which I’m okay with, keep them occupied.
Heavy Kamikaze attacks killed a Flak unit and the only remaining unit in Geiju. Lethal bombard!
Fuzhou was lost in the east to the Japanese!

Week 15
-The Japanese Air Force had gone completely silent, but in this turn, they returned with a fury!
Geiju is lost, taken by a large Army unit. This one is very close to the Rubber resource!! Another large Army unit attacking Xinyang! I decided to reinforce Xinyang after all, since I get to hit the Japanese units on their way to Yuncheng on every turn.
Man it’s taking forever to build more Artillery units! I’ve got my Workers concentrating on connecting the country with railroads, hoping to shift to Mine production asap.

Week 18
-Large number of Japanese units now pushing through the south towards Guiyang and Kumming. Another large Army unit spotted near Hengyang. Huge aerial bombardment on the Rubber resource, every single unit there has very low HP. The Commonwealth has also lost Mandalay, so we’re about to get hit with a wave! But I will protect this Rubber resource to the last man.

Week 21
I’ve been suffering many losses in the south, so I have drafted 10 green units.
-Ugh, there’s like 6 Kamikaze units attacking every 3 turns. And they are going after the Flak units! There is no defense against them! Henyang, Guiyang, Luzhou and Kumming all under attack right now!
The Communists have take Yuncheng from the Japanese! :)

Week 27
-Josef Stalin threatens war and we are forced to give in to his demands, bastard! :gripe:
Yuncheng falls to the Japanese again.

Week 36
Communists retake Yuncheng, I have 5 Arty units blasting any Japanese units trying to reach the town.

Week 39
Yussss! Killed my first enemy Army unit near Xinyang! [pimp] They have at least 4, possibly 5 running around.
Drafted 9 more Infantry units, good luck at the front line boys!! :scared:

Week 42

KMT Military
24 Workers
32 Civil Militia (immobile)
15 Cannon (immobile)
11 Artillery
39 Infantry 5-5-1 (19 as drafted units)
3 MG Battalions
23 Guerrilla 5-2-1
7 Chinese Guerrillas 5-4-2

1 Marine 9-7-1

0 Fighter
0 Bomber
3 Flak

Population: 4,968,000 6th
Land Area: 30,600 6th

We are 15 turns in, out of 70! There is a large massing of Japanese units between Wuhan and Nanchang, but I think I have it under control. Need more MG Batts and the Marines should be able to kill off the enemy Army units after the Arty reduces them. The aerial bombardment has been unrelenting and I’m having trouble improving the tiles. :run: I need more Flak escorts to really crank up my production!

1942 -Week 45
Killed another Army unit near Nanchang!
-Massive attacks everywhere on this turn! Yuncheng captured by Japan.

1942 -Week 51
-Yuncheng captured right back by the Communists!
Japanese Medium Tanks spotted for the first time! :scared:

1943 - Week 8
-Japanese have taken Chattogram in Bangladesh! I still expect the Commonwealth to push them back here eventually.

1943 - Week 11
-Japan takes Yuncheng again!

1943 - Week 17
-Yuncheng captured by Communists. I've lost count how many times this city has changed times. :wow:

1943 - Week 20
-Yusssssss, the Soviets have signed an alliance with the Yanks to fight Japan!!!! :ar15:

1943 - Week 35
Turn 30 out of 70, almost halfway there! I've been just playing defense the whole time shifting my Artillery units where the Japanese begin launching attacks. I'm pretty confident that I won't lose anymore territory to the Japanese. The Medium Tanks are tough to go against though, many MG Battalions have been lost. We've pushed them back from Taiyuan and Luzhou after some big battles there. I have restarted my tech research now that I'm able to get positive gold. Hoping to get Jet Fighters eventually.

KMT Military
24 Workers
32 Civil Militia (immobile)

VP Points: 26,580 to 60,350

I have been creating and saving my Marine units for my counter-offensive, which I think I'm close now with 9 units. Started thinking about the locations and the south is where the Japanese will have a tougher time reinforcing with the Commonwealth on their heels, CW have taken back Chattogram, so maybe the push into Burma will start soon. There is a cluster of 4 big cities starting with Nanjing which I can reach attack position in 1 turn, but none of these have VP locations, which I sorely need if the Allies are to win. Or possibly split my force and advance on Guanzhou and Fuzhou, but there aren't any clear roads here, which means it could take some time. We'll see what the situation looks like in 5-10 turns when I prepare to bring the pain to the Japanese! :yup:

KMT_1943-35s.jpg

Had some recent computer issues that have now been resolved, let us continue...

1943 - Week 38
-Yuncheng captured by Japan. Mandalay is retaken by the Commonwealth, YESSSSSSS! :) Now the Rubber resource is much safer and the Japanese will soon get pushed out of Burma!

1943 - Week 41
-Well it happened, the treacherous Communists have stabbed us in the back and declared war on us!!! :nospam: 2 Workers were captured. Yinchuan attacked, but held. Lanzhou on the other hand, had only 1 defender and they were defeated, the city was lost! :( Xinyang bombed by Communists Arty units that were around Wuhan. This wasn’t some alliance they signed with anyone, just pure hatred of our freedom loving lifestyle! :smug:
But we will respond with fury and anger!!!! RWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARR!!! :ar15: They will get back MAJOR retribution and feel the full might of the KMT!!! I’ve got 10 barrack-trained Marine units in Chongqing just itching to get into the storm and the time is now! Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

1943 - Week 44
Okay, so I needed to take a pause and assess the situation, before doing anything like a good little general. And the situation is not good!! I think the whole Northwest all the way to Yumen might in fact fall to the Communist, possibly even Yushu! It’s a bare cupboard over there and I’ve no way to reinforce those towns quickly.
My first move was to rescue my 2 Workers units and send them rushing back to safety! Then I captured the Communists Arty units near Wuhan, that battle was costlier than I would have wanted, but I now have 2 more Arty units at my disposal.

And now for the overall strategy, my thought is to take Xi’an first, as this is the other city that produces a Chinese Guerrilla unit every 3 turns, so very valuable. Defend against the Japanese here and continue on to the Lanzhou to recapture my lost territory. With that, I left all of the frontline cities dangerously exposed, but I needed to send my most experienced defenders to fight the upcoming battles into Communist territory! Marched 10 healthy Veteran Marine units, plus others to the attacking position outside of Xi’an and begun bombarding the city with 5 Arty units. It was a total combined force of 22 units in that area.
KMT_1943-44n.jpg

- Tibet declares war on the CW, an alliance with Japan! We’re going to get dragged into this one too, once they cross the border!!
Japanese units begun increasing their attacks on Nanchang, Henyang and Luzhou. Where I had moved my defenders out to support the offensive in Communist territory!
UUUUGH, Linxia in the north was also attacked and lost to the Communist!!! Yinchuan held, but barely!

1943 - Week 47
There is a rather large (many HP) T-34 Army unit in Xi’an that I will have to go through first, but nevertheless the battle for Xi’an is a go! Half of my Marines units were vaporized immediately, but after taking out the Army unit, the city was only defended by a bunch of Drafted Chinese Guerillas units (low HP). We quicky took care of them and marched into Xi’an victoriously!!! Now I’m going to miss those 5 Marine units for sure, but I’m sending more reinforcements asap to defend against the Japanese Medium Tanks and their Blitz ability, since we’re now right next to Yuncheng!
-Tibet signs alliance with Japan to fight us! They are also at war with Uyghurs so I sign an ROP with those guys in the hope they can fight them off in the meantime. Furious attacks on Xi’an by the Japanese, but the city holds! Xinchuan is now down to a single injured Guerrilla unit after repulsing Communist T-34 attacks. It won’t be long now for that city to fall too.

1943 - Week 50
Xi’an is now heavily reinforced and I think my next move needs to be to go for Yuncheng, as I can see the Japanese continually pouring in units into that city, so Xi’an will never be safe if I don’t take it. I think I understand the constant battles in Yuncheng between the AI Communists and Japanese, it has always been about Xi’an and the auto-produced units, Yuncheng just happened to be in the way! We also had mass rioting all over China, stupid peasants what a treacherous time to start that up!!!!

KMT_1943-50n.jpg

-The defenders of Xinchuan finally capitulated and the city fell to the Communists!! They held on longer than I would have though, but with no help on the way, it was inevitable.
The Tibetans assassinated 2 Worker units near Yushu!
Lots of losses at Luzhou, Nanchang and Xi’an as the Japanese Medium Tanks are feeling motivated to increase their attacks on our now weakened cities! In particular a pesky Army unit that is just south of Luzhou!

1944 - Week 1
I’ve had to draft an additional 8 Inf units to help out the situation in the south. We’re hemorrhaging badly down there, since I gave the north the priority. A green unit did achieve veteran status as they fought off attackers in the Mountains and I’m thinking I might send a few more to the Mountains to get promotions quicker. Going to have to crank up Artillery production cause the front line is just everywhere now!

And the Arty units in Xi’an have been very ineffective attacking Yuncheng and the Japanese keep getting that city reinforced more and more on every turn. It’s going to be a bloodbath if I try to capture it now. In the other direction, the path to Lanzhou is 4 tiles long, which is just too far to take with slow moving Marines, they’ll be depleted by the time they even get to attack the town. That is the death march I am not willing to take! But I’ve got a New tactic up my sleeve! :groucho: I’m going to send a group of Marines and Guerillas all the way to the southwest near Yushu and then back up north to attack Linxia! Thereby hopefully catching the Communists with their pants down! I’ll need to get my Worker units to quickly build some rail lines out there, so I can move quickly with surprise. Let’s hope this all works out!
KMT_1944-1n.jpg

1944 – Week4
Major battle in Nanchang!! Went down to 2 defenders after a ferocious Japanese attack! Very lucky to still hold this city, going to have to reinforce it some more.

1944 - Week 10
A big Communists Army unit full of T-34s began attacking Taiyuan, but I have enough units here to sustain some losses. But further west I got 10 Marines, 2 Chinese Guerrillas, 2 MG Batts, 5 Arty into attack position just south of Linxia! In total I have 12 Arty units all in the north right now, which I believe has led to a resurgence in huge Japanese attacks down south.

1944 - Week 13
The liberation of Linxia came as expected! We did catch them by surprise as there were only 2 Commie defenders here! Lanzhou is next! :run:

1944 - Week 16
And Lanzhou is liberated as well! Again only 2 Commie units defending, and we suffered with no losses, the plan has worked! Now I need to see where to go next. The damn Uyghurs are blocking the road to Yinchuan! I’m contemplating going east into the Communists capital of Yan’an to finally make the city of Taiyuan all contiguous for the first time.

KMT_1944-16n.jpg

-Aaaaaargh, the Australians made peace with the Communists and we are forced to sign a peace treaty as well!!! :wallbash:
I can’t definitively say that we won the Communist War, as Yinchuan is still under the iron thumb of Mao, but we did take Xi’an! I think I could’ve taken more territory from them, even as the southern cities have seen more attacks. :hide:

1944 - Week 19
Well I noticed this peace treaty took me out of Mobilization too. Let’s see if I can build some quick Factories before turning it back on!
Now I’m going to let my Arty sit and wait in the north, instead of pounding the Japanese units that are attacking Communists cities. No ROP either, there are consequences for betrayal you Commie scum!!!
Signed a peace treaty with Tibet.
-The Commies take Yuncheng with their T-34 Army unit.

Turn 45 out of 70 completed!
Lost quite a few Workers in the Northern Battles. I was able to capture 5 Artillery units in total to add to my collection. Have reconstituted my Marines, but would prefer more, to launch my counteroffensive in the south. Nevertheless, I think it’s time to go now, we are running out of time!

There is an insane amount of Soviet military equipment (20 Arty units at least) around Batou and heading south towards Tibet. They are still at war with Japan so I have no idea how they can even spare this many units. :shifty: Very concerned they will turn their guns on us, you know because they are Commies too!! This is making me hesitant on the Southern offensive, but it’s now or never!

Elsewhere, Rangoon has been taken back by the CW! The return of Burma is complete! No doubt giving the Thais hell now. The Dutch still hold 3 towns. The Soviets have lost Aleksandrovsk in the Sakhalin Islands to Japan. The Aussies lost Port Moresby to Japan. They were under pressure for a long time!!!
The Yanks have done nothing so far!

In between these turns, I have decided my counteroffensive in the south will go through Hengyang to attack Guanzhou! :smoke: There is a rail line that can take us to the Grassland tile just north of Guanzhou and into attack position in 1 turn! The river runs south of Guanzhou, so don’t have to worry about that defensive bonus. :D It will take 3 turns to get my Marines south from up north though.

1944 - Week 31
Heavy Japanese attack on Guiyang, but they were repulsed. They are sending a ton of units through the gap west of Liuzhou.

1944 - Week 34
Mongolia-Thailand peace treaty triggered peace between the Soviets and Japanese!!!! Oh no! :(

1944 - Week 37
The march to Guanzhou is complete, the long-awaited counteroffensive has arrived!! :goodjob: We prepare on the Grassland tile just north of Guanzhou with the river on the correct side for our attacking Marine units!!!

Order of Battle
4 Workers (to connect Guanzhou and reinforce it asap after capture)
5 Artillery
11 Marines
8 Chinese Guerrillas
1 Flak
2 Infantry
1 Mg Battalion

-UGHHHHHHH, our attacking force got hit really hard by the Japanese Arty and Air Force at Guanzhou.
And then the Japanese Medium Tanks came. Oh it was an absolute Catastrophe!!!!! :cringe: Wave after wave of Japanese Tanks, we lost 6 Marine and 2 Chinese Guerrilla units! I guess the river was on the correct side for them too!

1944 - Week 40
Was determined to see if I could do anything with our remaining units in position, but our Artillery bombardment was ineffective, and I decided to retreat, to save as many Marine units as possible. But because I had used the 5 Arty there, I had to reinforce that location to hopefully not lose my 5 Arty units on the next turn. 9 Infantry units were sent to help, but unfortunately the majority of them were Green conscripted units. Yes I knew I would lose a bunch of them, but hopefully the Japanese will run out of attackers.

KMT_1944-40s.jpg

-Communists and Soviets declare war. Well good night sweet Chinese Commies! The Mongols declare war on us too, not overly concerned.
Well it was an Epic Disaster in the south, we lost all 9 Infantry and 5 Artillery units, then the Japanese were able to catch up to our retreating forces to destroy 3 more of our Marine units!! I think the Japanese suffered 0 losses in these attacks too!!! 25 Units lost in 2 turns, including 9 of 11 Marine units, holy crap!!! :o:twitch::wallbash::gripe::vomit:

In more positive news, the CW have now taken Chiang Mai and Bangkok! Thais are down to 1 city and some CW (Commenwealth) units are now traveling across our territory to attack the Japanese, a much needed reprieve.

1944 - Week 43
I reach out to the Soviets and they agreed to start fighting the Japanese again after only offering some Silk. Kind of surprised, but I guess they have built up some anger against them. :salute:

1944 - Week 46
5th Factory built and Mobilization has started again!! When it is all said and done, this decision to build Factories in lieu of Mobilizing will be one of the gravest errors of the war, ugh!
Finally got my 1st GL finally in the north, will create a 3 Marine Army unit pretty soon!
-The Communists reduced to 1 city as they get annihilated by the Soviets.

1944 - Week 52
First Army battle victory! This should help me pick up more GL soon, I think this is how it works.
-The Communists were destroyed completely by the Soviets as they take Yuncheng, our previous holding.
Way down south the Aussies have taken Koepang and Ketapang in Borneo!!! Still nothing out of the Yanks!

1945 - Week 9
There is now a Big CW force heading towards Nanning to fight the Japanese!
-We have been getting hit hard by 2 Japanese Army units in Liuzhou. Many losses here and also in Nanchang, which is constantly getting attacked!!!

1945 - Week 12
Peace with Mongols. I sent my newly created 3 Marine Army unit to go after one of the Japanese Army units at Luzhou and it just failed to defeat the enemy. Both Armies were reduced to 1hp and we lost the final battle! Heartbreak!!! I really needed this Army unit for my second counteroffensive. :gripe:
In the east, after bombarding a Japanese Arty stack, I went on the offensive and was able to take 2 Arty units near Wuhan, not without casualties though. I should have been doing this earlier, versus trying to take whole cities in the south!
-Japan has made a comeback down south as they took Hanoi and Geiju.

1945 - Week 21
KMT Military
14 Workers
27 Civil Militia (immobile)
15 Cannon (immobile)
25 Artillery
11 Infantry 5-5-1
9 Guerrilla 5-2-1
10 MG Battalions
13 Chinese Guerrillas 5-4-2

6 Marines

3 Jet Fighter
3 Heavy Bomber
3 Flak

Turn 60 out of 70! I’ve built myself a little Air Force! Made a complete mess of it in the south though and haven’t yet recovered, mostly on defense this whole time, but I’m slowly building up my Marine force to give it another try!
Elsewhere, Indonesia is down to 2 cities. Aussie have lost the Borneo foothold, but still have Koepang.
No change in Manchuria. Yanks still not done anything.
-War with Tibet began, meh. Not too concerned about them. Soviets declare war Uyghurs.
Aussies recaptured Ketapang in Borneo again!
The Soviets are scary.... :shifty:

Moderator Action: I've fixed the scenario link in the first post. It just needed to use https instead of http so modern browsers didn't block it.

I might ordinarily suggest the story posts be in a Stories & Tales thread as well, but as it's been a year and has drawn some attention to the scenario, there doesn't seem to be much harm. IMO, half the reason for stories being in S&T was to avoid overtaking the thread of a still-active mod, which this wasn't; the other half was the audience looking to read stories typically looks in S&T for them. I probably would have read it earlier if it had been there, for example, as someone who hasn't been trying a lot of new scenarios but still visits my old stomping ground (S&T) occasionally.

Would be nice if those Yanks would show up some day. They seemed to do an effective job of it when you were playing as Japan :). At least the Soviets have fought Japan earlier than they did historically, but they do look scary. Have they taken much of Manchuria or Korea? It's a bit hard to tell from the Minimap.

Yes sir, I'll start doing these game reports in the Stories and Tales section I started out with simple game reports with other scenarios, but these have morphed into more full blown stories with Photoshopped maps and all. :)

So Manchuria and Korea are still fully in Japanese control, haven't seen them lose any territory here. But I imaging the area is seeing some terrific (or horrific) battles! :ar15: The same thing is likely happening in the waters of the Pacific with the Yanks. I wish I had enough Gold to steal some plans, but alas my treasury is running on fumes and I need every bit of it for survival.

This is the last update!

1945 - Week 24
Kaifeng and Xuzhuo fall to Soviets, and I can see a whole bunch of soviet units just pouring in, this is the breakthrough for sure! Japan about to be done in hard!

1945 - Week 27
War with Uyghurs and French, meh again. The second Southern counter-offensive is ready to launch now, the target is Nanning. I’ve decided to head west of Luizhou into a Forest tile, then south into a Hill tile just north of Nanning to give me some defensive cover. I’ve learned my lesson from the 1st counter-offensive.

Order of Battle..
9 Marines
8 Chinese Guerrillas
2 Guerrillas
2 Flak
1 Infantry
1 MG Batt
4 Workers (to build some roads

To the Liuzhou west tile forest we go, much smaller force than the 1st offensive, but this is all I can spare.

1945 - Week 30
Soviets capture Nanjing, it’s on, the Japanese are getting overrun! We got massively bombarded by enemy Arty units and the Japanese Air Force! I’m forced to retreat 8 of my Marines back to Guiyang for healing! The Japanese Arty stack is up to 8 and we are feeling it! I think this is a C3X feature, as soon as the AI sees a stack of Human Player units advancing they unleash the full might of their Air Forces and it's devastating!

1945 - Week 36
Ugh, lost Yumen to the Uyghurs. I attacked some Uyghur units that were approaching the city and made a mistake in leaving the city only defended by Arty. This fight is only like 3 vs 3 units.

In the south I also moved too many units to the attacking force in the forest tile and lost Liuzhou to Japan!! But with a bunch of units just outside the city, I should be able to recapture it quickly. I have not been able to get closer to Nanning as the bombardment has been relentless and I can’t keep units healthy enough here. My other option was to head straight to the Japanese Arty stack, but that would have depleted my forces and had me out of position, so I still think this was the right path, but it’s a brutal slog.

1945 - Week 39

KMT_1945-39s.jpg

Yumen is recaptured from the Uyghurs!!! Brought in some reinforcements to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

1945 - Week 42
Liuzhou retaken! Have begun mopping up the Uyghurs in the north.

Time is running out, so I’m just going send everyone to the Hill tile north of Nanning to launch my final attack, regardless of health. The CW are now launching Tanks into the Nanning area, so got to beat them to the City. Japan is done I think.

1945 - Week 45
Ruh Roh, Soviets attacked America and we are forced to declare war.
Totally unprepared for this one, the cities of Xi’an, Xiangyang and Xinyang all fall to the Soviets! Not much I can do about the Soviets, but just fortify and hope for the best.

1945 - Week 48
My depleted and battered force arrived to the Hill tile north of Nanning and finally went on to attack Nanning. The Japanese inside were battered as well from the CW Tank attacks, and we were so close to taking it back after all these years, but just ran out of units that I could send it.
-And After all my work and suffering the CW ended up taking Nanning with ease!! Further north the cities of Wuhan and Lanzhou fell to the Soviets. The KMT is finished.

1945 - Week 51
A humiliating defeat!
CW advanced all the way to Phnom Penh, never lost Singapore. The Aussies kept the foothold in Borneo. Dutch had 2 cities remaining. And aaaaaaaaaaaah the Yanks ended up capturing Hanoi only. How did they even get there with no territory west of Wake Island?!?!
There was no territory exchanged in Manchuria between the Soviets and Japanese.
The Soviets did tear through eastern occupied China and then Nationalist China itself!!!

KMT_1945-51s.jpg

So I was able to hold on to every Chinese city, except for the 4, I retreated from. But it did me no good, as all of these border towns got summarily destroyed by the enemy arty stacks. They were down to 1 population and not being able to produce anything for the cause. C3X has really changed the way to play this game. I think I should have gone after the Arty stacks as soon as they started building them outside of all of the border cities, but at great risk, since my units were limited with no reserves waiting behind. At least in Wuhan which had good production at the start, but became nothing after all of the buildings and population were destroyed. This scenario is tough because there aren’t that many units on the map, so no one is dispensable. I do wonder what would have happened if I just tried to fight for every city right from the beginning.

Scenario Changes; I think I need to increase the Chinese Guerilla auto-production time, going from 3 turns for both to 4 and 5. I leaned too much on these units. Will try to add some more Chinese cities around Fuzhou, it is a very isolated town but in reality very crowded area with big cities. Definitely do something about the Victory Points, the allies just can’t catch up to Japan. Take a look at the cost of Soviet units, they are very strong and scary! Or maybe that is correct? They did tear through Manchuria very quickly at the end of WWII!
