Just d/l'd this scenario yesterday. What a big undertaking! Here's another playtest. Hope it's helpful.
United States 2.4 Warlord (easy level until I get used to this scenario)
Week 37, 1939
-Set my cities that are empty to building 1939 Infantry...gotta have some kind of garrison.
-Sent 3 Artillery & 1 Cavalry towards Houston. Am contemplating invading Mexico & beyond at some point.
-I don't understand the Tech Tree at all. Many of the Techs seem to have no purpose, i.e. granting no new units, resources or abilities. I just shrug & start researching Light Land 1940, whatever that is.
-I basically have no land units, a very strong navy & a handul of aircraft to start with. My cities are mostly small & totally empty of units...not even a single Worker. Being in the midst of the Depression & full of recent immigrants, the U.S. should have a large, available workforce at this time.
-Noticed some major map innacuracies in the central U.S.:
1. St. Louis should be at the junction of the Missouri & Mississippi rivers. On this map, St. Louis isn't even on the Mississippi river-it's somewhere between Kansas City & Columbia, Missouri.
2. Omaha is included, but Kansas City is not. Kansas City was about twice the size of Omaha & a major railraod hub.
3. Wichita, Kansas is missing. Though a small city at the time, it was the U.S.'s largest manufacturer of aircraft during WWII. It still might be.
4. The Platte river is missing. The Kaw river is included, but the Platte is probably larger.
Atlantic Theater:
-Sent 4 Light Cruisers & 6 Destroyers from Florida towards San Juan to deal with the BB Graf Spee that's lurking offshore. Also rebased 4 Bombers & 1 Fighter to San Juan for same purpose.
-Sent 8 Submarines east towards Europe.
-Spread the rest of my Submarines along the East Coast as a defensive screen.
-Sent the rest of my Atlantic surface fleet towards Havanna. I figure I'll need 'em more in the Pacific or as cover for a later invasion of Mexico.
Pacific Theater:
-Sent 8 Submarines towards Dutch Harbor-a welcoming party in case the Japanese invade Alaska.
-Began moving the rest of my Subs into a defensive screen along the West Coast as I did in the East.
-Sent my only Marine & my only Transport toward San Diego. This will be my jumping off point for attacks in the Pacific (or possibly Mexico).
-Rebased 3 Bomber & 2 Fighters to Guam.
-Rebased one Bomber to Honolulu.
-Sent Pacific surface fleet towards Honolulu.
-Sent 8 Submarines west of Hawaii to scout & set up a defensive screen.
-Sent 10 WWI Destroyers & 5 Submarines from Davao to Manilla. I figure the Japanese attack will come from the North.
-France sends 6 Destroyers east from Indo-China into the Phillipines. Am wondering why they'd leave their coast undefended & move away from enemy territory.
Week 38, 1939
-The Dutch offer Spices for Gold & 70 gold. I decline, but offer an ROP which they accept. They need the Gold allot more than I need the Spices. My cities aren't that big & Unhappiness isn't a problem for me, yet.
-Pollution appears at Detroit...that didn't take long. Still have no Workers-not so much as an Ozark hillbilly with a mule & a plow.
-A few cities complete 1939 Infantry & start making Workers.
Atlantic Theater:
-German BB Graf Spee bombards San Juan (no effect) & retreats out of sight to the east.
-I find the BB Graf Spee with a Light Cruiser, bomb it with 4 Bombers & 1 Fighter & attack with Light Cruisers. Result: BB Graf Spee sunk. Lost 1 Light Cruiser, 1 Bomber. One Light Cruiser damaged.
-I send remaining ships at San Juan to join the rest of the Atlantic Fleet at Havanna.
Pacific Theater:
-French Destroyers continue east through the Phillipines toward Truk.
-Unknown number of Japanese Submarines attack them. Result: 2 French Destroyers sunk, none damaged. At least 1 Japanese Sub sunk.
-Dutch fleet of 3 Light Cruisers, 2 Destroyers, 2 Submarines comes out of the Spice Islands & heads east towards Truk past the southern Phillipines. They are not stacked, but spread out in a line.
-Fearing the Dutch & French are about to be ambushed, I send 4 WWI Destroyers towards them from Manilla.
-I send 5 Submarines north of Manilla accidentally destoying a Japanese Submarine (didn't see it until I was attacking it) & spotting 3 Japanese Destroyers.
-I rebase 1 Bomber & 1 Fighter from Guam to Manilla.
-I bomb Saipan from Guam with 2 Bombers & a Fighter. Result: 1 Japanese Infantry damaged.
-I rebase one bomber from Honolulu to Guam.
-My submarines off the West Coast are now in place in a screen protecting my mainland coastline.
Week 39, 1939
-Germany eliminates Poland.
-I finally have a few Workers.
-It's gonna be awhile before I'm exporting ground units overseas. My cities need allot of work.
Atlantic Theater:
-The Atlantic Fleet begins arriving in Havanna.
-Seeing no further immediate threat, I rebase the planes in San Juan to Houston.
-My Submarines arrive off the Canary Islands finding them deserted. Historically, they were a possesion of Spain. I'll probably send the Subs towards northern Europe next. There's not allot of space in the Mediterranean to hide vulnerable Subs.
Pacific Theater:
-I'm really worried about Alaska. Hopefully the Japanese won't notice that it's wide open for the taking.
-Pacific Fleet begins arriving in Honolulu.
-Just noticed that Midway & Iwo Jima exist, but Wake Island isn't on the map... Historically, the Japanese lost some ships to it's shore batteries while taking it & pointlessly fortified & garrisoned it during the remainder of the war.
-Three of the remaining French Destroyers move north up the eastern Phillipine coast. One retreats west into the Phillipines.
-Japanese Submarines attack the Dutch fleet south of the Phillipines. Result: 1 Dutch Light Cruiser, 1 Dutch Destroyer sunk. 1 Dutch light Cruiser damaged. Possibly 3 Japanese Submarines sunk (it's hard to be sure).
-The remaining Dutch ships retreat out of sight back into the Spice Islands.
-I move 2 WWI Destroyers to where the French were ambushed the previous week, but make no enemy contact.
-I move 2 WWI Destroyers to where the Dutch were attacked & find 5 Japanese Submarines. I attack. Result: I lose 2 WWI Destroyers! 1 Japanese Submarine damaged! Might as well be using rowboats...
-Japanese attack my 5 Submarines north of the Phillipines with 3 Destoyers & 5 Submarines. Result: 1 Japanese Submarine sunk, 1 Japanese Destroyer damaged. 3 U.S. Submarines sunk, 1 damaged.
-I counterattack with 1 Bomber & 6 WWI Destroyers from Manilla & 1 Submarine. Result: 3 Japanese Submarines, 1 Japanese Destroyer sunk. 2 Japanese Destroyers damaged. 1 U.S. Submarine, 1 U.S. Destroyer sunk. 5 U.S. Destroyers damaged.
-I Bomb Saipan from Guam destroying it's Temple.
At this point, I'm not sure whether to crank up gold revenue to buy my way out of trouble in Alaska & the Phillipines or to crank up Tech research so that, when my mainland cities are ready, they'll be able to crank out more advanced units.
