    Polynesia? Seriously!?

Given my first-hand experience in the subject, I found this to be personally offensive; but maybe I'm wrong in assuming this was a reference to OEF/OIF. If you were talking about that, you need to understand a few points. First, Canada was one of the more involved peacekeeping players in...

    Polynesia? Seriously!?

I can understand, even as an American, this question. It has always felt a bit silly that the United States can start a game at 4000 BCE, and immediately turn on countries such as England and Rome. However, my view of the justification behind the inclusion is rooted in several facts. The...

GDC 2011: Strategy Games - the next move

A lot of the AI, namely the combat AI, seems to have been borrowed from Civ4; the reason it's so horrendous in Civ5 is because the AI keeps trying to do things that don't exist, or that don't make sense in a "what is best for this unit" point of view. Units don't embark, because embarked...

155 things you didn't know until Civ5 taught you

134.1. Trade only occurs between the cities of the same country, if those cities are connected to the capital.

    Polynesia? Seriously!?

While I would have to go look up the technical specs for the Avro Arrow to make a valid argument as to the aircraft being ahead of it's time or not-- it didn't pioneer delta wings. Germany's "Delta I" and Britain's "Avro" were the first to use Delta wings, and the Avro Arrow pulled that from...

GDC 2011: Strategy Games - the next move

The hard part right now wouldn't be finding the Civ5 sales figures, but a set of Civ4 sales figures that would provide an accurate comparison.

GDC 2011: Strategy Games - the next move

Civilization V is often criticized on this forum for being so stripped of features as to not deserve the title of "Civilization", instead often being referred to as "Civilization Revolutions 2." This often plays out as a satirical allusion to the game being so simple that it could be played...

Why don't we add the X-Seed 4000 as a wonder?

This is where your argument fell apart. Making a statement that is off-topic, and then providing no references, is an almost surefire way to have your argument dismissed. Pair that with insulting your audience, arbitrary statistics, and an obvious ignorance of the very things you are...

Facebook as an indicator of popularity of Civ V

As was said, earlier... no it's not.

Facebook as an indicator of popularity of Civ V

I play FPS, so I must be a stupid FPS playing dimwitted fool. I enjoy playing Civ4, and am at least adept at it. Therefor... Civ4 must be for stupid FPS playing dimwitted fool. If that's Facebook, then what is MySpace?

    Polynesia? Seriously!?

Istanbul was Constantinople Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night Every gal in Constantinople Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople So if you've a date in Constantinople She'll be waiting in Istanbul...

    A simple question.

This. I don't object to the AI wanting to pursue a goal, but I do mind when that goal is specifically "Win the Game." An AI should not act as if it is aware that it playing a game; and I feel that an AI fills it's role better when it plays as either an obstacle or a tool. AI's should...

    A simple question.

It can work in certain types of games, but Civ isn't one of them. Metal Gear comes to mind... when you hear "Press the 'X' button" or "Quick! Change your controller to port two!" it is a quick immersion break that you immediately recognize and overcome. In Civ5, those words are there the entire...

"your Stealth Bomber was destroyed by an enemy Pikeman"

This would be more plausible in Civ4, where Espionage was a game mechanic. However, Civ5 has no comparable level of gameplay. In Civ5, a pikeman is a pikeman, and there is no way to view it as anything else without attributing it to features that do not exist.
