    Unit XP Question

There go my plans for power units. Simpler and easier, it seems, to just built the Barracks and Armory, but the culture points are still nice. Thanks for the quick answer.

    Unit XP Question

Ran into an oddity and thought I'd bounce it off of those with a lot more experience with Civ 5. For some strange reason, units stopped picking up experience from trashing Barbarians (game was set to Raging Barbarians). I'd pick up the culture points very consistently, but the XPs were a no-show...

    Insane Pop ups!!!

This sounds a lot like one of the effects noted in this thread. Something happens (I don't recall anyone every saying what) that keeps the game from displaying messages and notifications. They pile up and pile up until a saved game is loaded, which seems to set everything back to normal except...

    Loading/unloading cargo

This is a "by design" behavior, I think. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me, it worked the same way in the original game. When you want to move a partial load, hold down the <shift> key and drag the cargo. When you release the mouse button, the game will ask you how many units you want to move.

    Occasional bad starts

On a freshly booted machine, the game launches just fine. After spending some time here on the forums or elsewhere (I use Firefox 3 almost exclusively), the game will launch, but hang on a black screen with the rotating globe icon. Solution: open Task Manager, kill the app and relaunch the...

    Game of Economics

On the Petty Criminal question, I know that they are very poor at just about everything, so it would not surprise me to find that their conversion rates as missionaries are lower than Free Colonists or even Indentured Servants. What's the point in having them otherwise? I just wish they were...

    Veteran soldiers

Obsolete: I think you may be right on the FF issue. I'm trying to remember back to Col1 (way too many years ago) and I think you could add George Washington as a FF to get the promotion bonuses for the Continental Army.

Price of "hurried" colonists cost far more than "new" ones

It would have to be that or capping the immigrant cost at something like the highest priced recruit. However, those prices also go up as you recruit more of particular specialties. For example, you first cannon costs something like 750, the second is something like 900, the third is even more...

King continues to tax after Independence won

Not surprising. After you are independent you'd have to pay import tariffs when selling in a foreign country, which is what the motherland is. I agree that it's kind of silly, but it's at least a little on the realistic side.

    Colonization Walkthrough?

I think either you're confusing something or I'm confused. In the original game, when you declared independence, some/all of your Veteran soldiers got promoted to Continental if they were in settlements. In this version, they get bonuses based on overall Rebel sentiment, minus 50% (60% sentiment...

    Crosses and the Docks

I almost posted a "whyizzit" bug report on this a little earlier today. The OP's got it pretty much nailed - you're paying for crosses when you purchase an immigrant (I haven't run the math, but it looks something like 10/cross at Pioneer difficulty). In the early game that's a pretty cheap way...

    How do you make artillery?

If I'm reading the Civopedia (or Colonizopedia - whatever) correct, the player cannot build Artillery. These are unique units for the King's forces, so I'm guessing that they are not available to the player. The whatever-opedia says that it replaces Cannon, but it says the same thing about a...

    Isn't a bit paranoid?

For the sake of historical accuracy - 1763 (end of the Seven Years' War). So going from happy colonists to revolution in 12 years (Lexington/Concord in April 1775). Although I should also point out that John Adams later said that he thought it was 33/33/33 - a third for independence, a third...

    Natives

I'd have to disagree. The point of the whole game is to be able to win a war for independence (or to keep the AI from winning a war for independence while you wait for the clock to run out - cheesy, but it is one of the victory conditions). While I'm not happy with Native wars in the early game...

    Natives

A bit off-topic, but the work-around solution seems to be to train the Native Convert at the village. After that, you should be able to remove the specialty and turn them into Free Colonists, which could then be trained as Veteran Soldiers - clunky and slow, but it gets there eventually.
