What's the most significant advance in the history of science?

The telephone (or telegraph). Opening up more or less instant communication changed human society. Im a great believer in the Kardashev scale, and the internet (which is just a fancy telephone) is the closest thing we have to a Type I invention.

How Evolution is possible along with Christianity (A Thread for Christians)

Watch the news And this one is in the UK, dunno about elsewhere So if your asking how evolution has practical applications then predicting how a new disease will change is a good example imo. We dont know how bird flu will change, thats what the debate is about atm, wether to spend millions...

    To Whom It May Concern

If theres one thing that I had to learn the hard way its that you dont always win, but thats where your character shows through, those things like honour and dignity.

A rebirth of the British Empire...well, sort of :)

If Britain became a 51st state we would get twice as many Electoral College votes than Cali. After all we wouldnt want taxation without representation would we ;)

    This is racism, right?

If you cant go tell anyone in charge, I suggest taking the piss out of your boss with well know boss sterotypes, maybe a dilbert cartoon telling him how stupid he is, see how he likes it. Two wrongs can sometimes make a right kids!

    Tap water drinkers

I like to sneak downstairs at night and pour away my sisters bottled water and refill it from the tap. Does this make me a bad person?

    Conservatives against ID

Whats the problem with teaching evolution? From the level of ignorance most people show about evolution I would have thought they didnt teach it at all. Im often torn between keeping non-science subject like ID out of the science classroom, and the alternative of actually showing people how...

Am I an evangelical? If not, what am I?

Sterotyping and pigeonholing people is simply a useful tool as long as you dont read to much into it. Obviously there is just as much disagreement in the religious camp about various things as there is in any complex subject, be that politics or the other vital question of our time, Coke or...

    The Global Warming Thread

I dont understand why it matters if global warming is man made or not, surely the only thing that matters is the effect. Its not like its any kind of consolation that your farmland turned to desert because it was 'just a natural cycle'.

    Quantum Query

If you assume that the universe didnt end you would have some interesting effects to say the least. Such as being able to walk through walls. Which would rock my socks. (To much X-Men 3)

Well there are certain people who consider religious indoctrination at a young age a form of child abuse. Personally I wouldnt go that far, unless you think (for example) Pokemon takes advantage of childrens gullibility and is evil. Ok maybe pokemon was a bad example.

The bible should be rated 18+ for all the violence, rape, incest and genocide in it. Rather unsuprisingly the 'violence and cruelty' section of skeptics bible is by far the longest. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html

I preffer the skeptics annotated bible. And you cant tell me that Christians are being persecuted when Atheists are the most hated group in america.
