I raze
I still strongly support a new game concept of refugees. If you raze, all those people don't die in the fire, instead they escape to nearby cities, increasing their population. Or even form guerilla units like in civ2 to slow your progress.
Marshes are more permanent in nature. Flood plains flood temporarily and are very fertile. Nile delta comes to mind.
Which reminds me... Trading posts built on flood plains should regularly wash away. Maybe every 15 turns.
I stopped gifting them ranged units because they always send them out to get massacred :P same goes for city states. Unless they're better tech then what the opponent has.
I know he's a pacifist, but it's getting sad. In each game I played, if Gandhi was on the map, he got wiped out before modern age by another AI if not me.

Instead of challenging my intellect, you could give this game a chance (deity, quick, small). Win it, come back and offer us tips. Don't reload if it violates your standards.
It does while the game is new (as it is) and we're still testing and learning.
If I want to follow through on an idea, damn right I'll reload until I get the conditions I want.
Again, this thread contributed NOTHING to the strategy of the game style presented (deity-quick-small map)...
