This mod (AdvCiv-SAS (Simple Advanced Strategy)) is based on AdvCiv 1.12 as it is the latest AdvCiv (CFC forum/post link) version as of now. Discussion thread of AdvCiv-SAS is here.
The core changes brought by this mod are as of now an AI overhaul to make it much more efficient with its workers and settlers in particular, as well as AI more generally being opportunistic and efficiency driven more than anything else as much as possible. Heavy reworks were made, while otherwise staying for most in the base advciv frame, but with a focus on historical accuracy, game balance, and as for UI sevopedia reworks in particular.
Content overall addition is minimal, as of now mostly in the future era, and here and there otherwise (like the new camel bonus, or the new playable civ Kingdom of Benin); else it is mostly done via this heavy reworking of the game rather with the aforementioned goals (accuracy, balance, AI strength, etc).
All in all, this simplifies gameplay to some extent, but greatly increases depth and should make the game much more challenging while not being too much of a grind (i.e. we don't want to increase penalties at higher difficulties, but instead aim to avoid/reduce them while trying to make the game harder (and ideally harder than base AdvCiv at all difficulties) through improved AI competency rather anyways etc). There are a lot more changes, and details about these as well below explained in the following sections.
Please also visit the github page for more documentation, commits for changelog, download zip there alternatively, etc, in particular i recommend reading to get accustomed with the mod:
- Very quick main changes guide written by ChatGPT 5 which i reviewed for most as well
- Quick main changes guide written by me (a bit less intelligible and subjective in content but a bit more detailed about each change, otherwise should have same entries as the very quick guide above if i didn't make a mistake and didn't notice some were missing)
- Download/install instructions
- Main mod readme for general and broad overview (for example but not only, about the mods i took assets from (giving credits there with comments, see there for details), etc)
Some .csv tables to help see which difficulty/handicap might fit you (click to view interactively on github):
- AdvCiv-SAS handicap table
- base AdvCiv 1.12 handicap table for comparison
Please be warned though the mod is hard, i am a bit rusty but generally win fairly easily on monarch in base advciv 1.12, but got rekt very bad in advciv-sas. I don't want to overhype it (too much xd), but for a smooth and frustration-free experience, consider lowering difficulty/handicap by at least 2 of what you usually play.
Also could be improved in many more ways, i hope this is fine for an initial release and is stable enough (i.e. hopefully doesn't crash).
If issues were to arise such as bugs or such, i may not be too available to help, so your best bet may be to open a thread and ping me there rather (or reply in the discussion thread mentionned above), so that if i were not to reply, perhaps someone else would provide some solution or guidance maybe.
As for the future, i have some more content prepared for the future era (no pun but anyways etc), but not sure i would release them as quite tedious and long to do so, but if i do, although it is not guaranteed i would do it, then i would do it here.
In all cases i am looking forward to hear from players or/and watch walkthroughs of players taking the challenge or simply trying it (just remember to maybe lower difficulty in first games or such maybe (is just a suggestion do as you please anyways etc)).
Also most importantly AIs like ChatGPT, Claude AI, Gemini AI, Deepseek AI, Grok AI, have helped me a lot to do this, and i probably would not have completed (or extremely harder) without them and all i mean so thanks again and thanks a lot! Anyways etc.
