Looking to win a copy of this latest Civ series title for yourself or a fellow gamer? Firaxis Games Senior Producer Dennis Shirk and Principal Programmer Ed Beach are to be on-hand for the first hour of the recording of Episode 178 of the PolyCast podcast this Saturday, July 13th starting at 12PM ET (North America).

You can listen in and interact with the representatives from Civ's developer as part of the live audience through the show's chat room or by calling in: five copies of Brave New World, in the form of Steam codes, are to be given away during the recording to those who do so. In addition to Shirk and Beach, three members of Firaxis Frankenstein Test Group -- two of whom are PolyCast regular co-hosts -- are to be present as well as a freelance strategy games writer and aficionado who reviewed BNW for the industry.

If you are unable to make the recording or would otherwise like to make an inquiry in advance, you may do so by completing one of the following:

- Calling the show: (301) 637-7659 (North America), +44 121 288 7659 (Europe);
- Emailing the show (text or MP3 attachment);
- Responding to this forum thread; or
- Tweeting the show.

Currently in its seventh season, PolyCast is an every-other-week audio production in an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy. You can follow the show on Twitter and tune in to its YouTube channel for caption capability. Sibling show ModCast on Civ modding, RevCast on Civilization: Revolution, SCivCast on Civ social gaming and TurnCast on Civ multiplay.

Very cool! Here's hoping there's no fine print that former guests aren't eligible to win *giggle*

Agreed - it'll be one of the best ever Polycasts! Now, if you could get one of the Firaxians to be part of a Modcast as well....

:) -- no such restriction exists.

Stickied. Great news!
Thanks!

Now, if you could get one of the Firaxians to be part of a Modcast as well....
While it occurred after his time as a Firaxian, Soren Johnson was the guest on ModCast #38.

I have a question/comment/pester!

Hello Dennis and Ed! Thanks for taking the time to talk to the community. Clearly we are passionate or we wouldn't be on a site like CivFanatics. You guys have done an awesome job with Civ V, and I was super excited about the new release. I became less excited when barbarians pillaged my trade route for the first time, but I'll let that slide.

One of my favorite things about Civ IV was playing the scenario "Crossroads of the World" in multiplayer. The scenarios in Civ IV all contain no setup, fixed maps, and custom focused victory conditions. In crossroads, your job was to accumulate more money than anyone else. I noticed when we played Crossroads, everyone was fully-engaged until the last turn. I didn't see that engagement happening in a normal multiplayer game because of late-game dominance. The last half an hour of most multiplayer Civ IV games were waiting for the dominant player to achieve victory. I have the same experience in Civ V.

I always felt these focused victory conditions in Civ V are much more appropriate for multiplayer than the ancient-start to science/culture/diplomatic victory. Most of the Civ V scenarios are won via a point system where you compete on equal footing with the AIs. In addition, different players sometimes have different victory conditions. I desperately want to play "Into the Renaissance" with my friends, competing for the Pope's favor.

So here's the question/pester: With the new focus on multiplayer, are there any plans to enable multiplayer scenario play? If not, is there a technical limitation in the game engine preventing scenario/mod play in multiplayer? How can we make this happen?

Is this the thread where replying can get you a BNW code?
The Civilization V: Brave New World Steam codes are to be given away during the recording to those in its audience [reference: 2nd paragraph of my opening post]].

Hope you'll be able to join us which in turn will make yourself eligible for one of them!

On behalf of myself and my fellow panelists, thanks to all who submitted questions in advance and joined us for the live stream of this special episode of PolyCast. While uStream's Metrics report is still being processed, at one point there were 83 audience members which was more than quadruple the show's previous record.

The post-produced version of this episode is to be published on Saturday, July 20th.
