New wonder: The Large Hadron Collider

Since today is the innoguration and the Earth still hasn't exploded (BIG SURPRISE...) I thought it would be nice to include the LHC as a world wonder.

By the way, I don't beleive in any way that the LHC will destroy the Earth. Those are the ideas of paranoid amish sheep who are afraid of things they don't understand. I personnaly barely understand the LHC but I find it amazing and I would give anything to work there, even as a janitor.

That being said, I give you:

The Large hadron Collider

(A sh*t load of hammers)
Requires 2 power sources
+25% spaceship production
+50% science for ALL civilisations (Dozens of countries participated)
+50% science (For the building player)
+25% production
-15% wealth (Expensive maintenance)
+10% Culture (Tourists!)
Very small chance of causing extreme natural disasters (For flavor

)

Anyone agrees?

How about instead of -15% wealth make it +X% maintenance? Seems more logical if the expenses are on maintenance

Instaded of a Great Enginer, you need a Great Scientiest to rush the construction.
Or give one extra Great Scientiest in the city that is built.

It could probably have both Great Engineers and Great Scientists to rush it, and even then it'll only go up by... 10% XD

how about:

The Large hadron Collider

World project (cannot be rushed :rolleyes:

)
+10% spaceship production in every city (For the building player)
+10% science in every city for ALL civilisations (Dozens of countries participated)
+100% science in this city (For the building player)
+25% city maintenance in this city (Expensive maintenance)
+10% Culture (Tourists!) (and media types going on about the end of the world)
(edit) +5 free scientist specialists in city
(edit) -25% cost for enemy espionage missions in the city (apparently it's easy enough to shut the thing down by shoving beer cans up the tubes)

But I would leave out:
Very small chance of causing extreme natural disasters (For flavor )

Though I get exactly where you are coming from, very small chance of something very very bad is really crappy for game balance

It'd be funny if there was a 1/10000 chance of "A black hole the size of a period flew out of the LHC, causing major damage to the computers."

And afterwards, the UN(If created) would be able to shut the project down, which would give you a sh*t load of gold. XD

Well, LHC just fired one beam today. Real colliding will start soon, better do what you have to do.

Or it could just be a way of killing everybody by sucking them in a miniature black hole. You could build it if you are a sore looser or maybe you'd be the only one to escape through a wormhole or something, winning a conquest victory or a transdimensional victory.

Not that the LHC would do anything like that for real.

How come you have to pay all the maintainance while the other civ's that contributed get a science bonus for next to nothing!

Well, the earth isn't gonna explode (implode?) until they start smashing them particles at full speed which will not happen until next year. So for all those who thought the world ends by the time the LHC is turned on, I say "DUH".

And for all those who still believe that the earth is gonna vanish when they actually do the cool stuff next year, I say "double duh".

I agree with you. THe LHC is a fascinating thing and I can't wait for the results. Hey, who knows, maybe God shows up like "hello, my name is Higgs, you got it wrong all along"

I would also add: first to build LHC receives a free engineer and a free scientist and creates 5 turns of revolt in any city with a religion present (of any player) :lol:

Not sure I agree with the culture thing. Ever since it's been turned on, I'm fairly sure no-one's actually allowed to go down there that doesn't work there now

I think you should have to wait 10 years (turns?) for any benefits and then at that point it is random whether it turns out to be a great scientific achievement +25% science all your cities and 25% production of space ship, a white elephant and only good for tourism +25% culture or a huge waste of money and no benefit at all :lol:

If anything, it should be a prerequisite to continue to advance in the tech Tree, just like what it really is. We're going to learn something from it, I'm sure, even if it is the opposite of what we'd like to learn. I'll really have to laugh if it will beincluded in civ 12 in 2060 and has a whole tech tree dedicated to it

. We can still dream, can we?

PS: Maybe we should insetad add the Cern and make it the equivalent of the the Great Library in modern times. That would really make sense
