1-2 fps with a good computer BUT max in tutorial?

I have a pretty good computer.
6800gt
amd 3200+
1.5 gig of ram
audigy 2.
all new drivers. ALL new. mobo vid sound etc
defragged. i have like.. 2 fragged files
but when i run the game i get a constant 1-2 fps. high low medium , max res medium res low res nothing works. none of the options work and ive tried them all.
One thing is tho. when i go to the tutorial it runs at FULL SPEED. fraps is giving me like 60fps on maxed out settings in the tutorial. but i get a solid 1-2 in the real game.

Maybe it's the video of the leaderhead like me... cause if you have the same problem then me, the game should drop to 1-2 FPS right at start becasue you see your own leaderhead showing and THIS IS whats make the game so laggy. Try to press Pause - TABWindow, go to desktop and come back in the game... should be ok with FPS... next time you meet a leader ... do the same thing again and and over again until you win the game...

good luck cause if you meet 2-3 leader in the same turn, the game will get slower with each leader... mean 3 leader, you can wait 2 min just to leave the game... give you plenty of time to destroy your keyboard and asking you why you bought this buggy game...

Perhaps it is the leaderhead but, unfortunatly i dont recieve any kind of framerate boost from alt-tabbing. good idea tho! also fullscreen/windowd = the same framerate

Same issue here:
3 Ghz p4
1.5 gigs ram
6800GT

Has anyone found any real fix for this or a common configuration? From what I've seen it looks like many of the people having this issue have 6800 GTs - is that maybe the common component that is the core of the issue?

Since you have the same problem. Do you notice ANY change when you alter the gfx settings? ive zoomed in pretty far and.. i cant tell a difference between max and min gfx settings. resolution works just fine.

Any change seems to be temporary. I can reduce the graphics settings and things may improve but in two turns things are just as bad again.

Thanks for the link - looks like some people have solved the problem by installing service pack 2. Is there anyone here having this issue who does have SP2 installed? I don't have it installed, but I'll try to update after I have some lunch.

That link was very informative. Thanks. Unfortunatly i already have service pack 2, so that wont help me. They also suggested forcing 1.1 vertx shaders. that didnt work either.

This is vastly confusing to me. I run fear at medium settings and get like 40-50 fps even during firefights. I dont understand how something could be so.. poorly optimized?

Finally some progress! anyone having the same problem as me please try the following settings
1. all gfx options min-ed
2. normal game
3. pangea
4. medium landmass and tropical
5. french
6. pressed shoreline

these settings give me 30fps. for some reason any game i start with the "Terra" landform gives me 1-2 fps. the tutorial gives me the same 30fps. so perhaps its soemthing to do with the landform?
