I have a 256 mb 6800 gt video card .

Whenever I play Civ 4 , most notably ever since I installed Warlords , after about 20 minutes I start getting graphical glitches . The first time I just exited to desktop and checked my video cards temperature .

It was 109 Celcius .

Now , I usually just have a fan pointing into the side of my case , which I had .

( I started doing this after I got Oblivion )

But not even OBLIVION gets my video card as hot as Civilization 4: Warlords !

I could play for as long as I wanted with the 'regular' Civilization 4 without a hitch ! I usually stopped when I started getting sleepy , yes , I'm a marathon player .

The game set all my graphic settings to high , so , would it helped if I dropped down to medium ?

If anyone has any advice please feel free to impart ! I love Civilization , I've been hooked on this game since the first one and those games didnt look all the great so graphics arent all that important to me .

I mean , when it comes to Civilization , its all about strategy . Tho , Nimoy is a nice touch !

I have the side of my case open , I have a fan blowing directly onto my cards GPU and I have 4 fans in the case already !

Help !

lol .

Oh , for reference , I play Battlefield 2 sometimes for hours on end and my video card only gets to 86 Celcius .

Oblivion gets to 96 Celcius .

Doom 3 : 85 Celcius

Half Life 2 : 85-87 Celcius

Far Cry : around 80 Celcius .

This is all with the fan blowing on my video card .

Argh ! Lol , I just need to know why Civ 4: Warlords heats up my video card so much and what I can do ( short of getting water cooling ) to stop it !

OMG. Well I recommend that you experiment with various graphics settings. And there's a magical ini file option that might help you:
; Set max frame rate clamp (0 means none)
SetMaxFrameRate = 60
This should tell your GPU not to render 100+ frames per second but only 60 (or less, I read 40 was recommended as well).

Hey , I set all my settings to medium and my gpu stays at around 86-89 !

I didnt try the .ini tweak but I shall do that now !

Thanks for the advice !

Even so, these temps are wayyy too hot. Get your self some cooling for that board, and additional cooling for the case before you fry it.

(FYI, 109 degrees Centigrade, is about 230 degrees Fahrenheit. How do you like your eggs?)

I think i might have the same problem, so where do i update these settings? In what file?

thanks in advance

Find civ4 ini file under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Games\Civ4. It is called CivilizationIV.ini. Open it e.g. with notepad.
