Don't know if there is anybody but..

I started out going for conquest by hut units like last gotm.Same size map, difficulty and 1 less civ should be good.

So,I get an archer.Then a horse.Then......

A CAPITOL from a hut(as usual missed 2 specials but was on river)

That kinda threw a wrench into that plan as now huts gave supported units and BARBS.
My 2nd city was from a hut also. That was good.But..nearly 2000 years had passed. That was very bad.

I have a handle on it now but the bc years have come and gone and I still have yellow left. They have a walled capitol now as well :(

Contrary to you, smash, I settled in 4000BC, rushed to Monarchy, then rushed to Trade, built Marco to know where those cities were, built SunTzu to get vet units and started riding as soon as I got Chivalry. Conquest in the early ADs. Will that be sooner than your hut system?
(Matrix knows :D )

Probably since this time units from huts DID NOT work after I got a capitol.I never considered that I might get a capitol. It is possible but very rare...just got it at the worst possible time.

I finished before 500ad but bc should be very doable with only 4 civs and king level.I keep forgetting that vets are not so vital on king level.Too much deity I spose.I also went for knights and Sun's but probably should have just gone for green elephants or chariots

I agree that even chariots can make a tremendous job (before walls). You lose quite a few, but you finish early  .

How you fellows are chatting to finish early is a marvel to me. Some day I might try it.

I went for Monarchy, then Pyramids. I have struggled with border skirmishes, and the Barbarians are relentless. I now have a big civ, a big army, and am happily building and fighting. By a big civ, I mean 11 cities so far, 10 Settlers, 4 Temples and 2 Libraries, and 20 military units. This map is fun, and I'm thankful it is small, but it is strategically not what I expected.

I always do the same thing as Smash, with the huts and NON's. But my advantage was that I had monotheism at the time that I found a few mercenaries, so I had crusaders running around, and they even get past the walls when veteran. Still way behind, though, didn't get pet city until 1000 A.D., but that's only because it took a while to find the Aztecs.

 One of my shortest games ever!!! :D:D:D I'm not finished yet, but I just might finish even earlier than the earliest finishes in last GotM: I got troops near the (I think) last yellow city....heavily damaged though, an attack from the city would probably kille the horsemen......we'll see :D

That was my first gofm. i have been playing the game for about a year and recently found the site about a month agon.

i build my first city straight away and wanted to win by highest score approach, but the ais are too close and i have to fight to protect myself. i stopped the germans from building the hanging gardens, but i was cut between two strategies, conquest and science development. by 500 ad. i had about 12 but i had not significantly weakened the ais, so i was doing rather crap. a small map is suited to conquest and thats what i should have done early on.
i went to carried on my game but i had saved after it with a different game:o, so this month's gotm is over for me. looking forward to next month, hope its a large map, good terain so i can develop a huge science orientated civ ie. 100+ cities

bye

Welcome to CFC and GotM! Say....you don't have autosaves, have you? That way you can continue (look for Ge_auto.sav)

i lost my last save in about 500 ad but i started again and got a conquest victory in 220 bc.

i destroyed the presians in 3500bc, germans 3000bc and the artezs in 220bc.

i used the no city hut system and i destroyed the first two very easly but i found the artezs harder to break down. they had more troops and i wasn't able to get any more troops from huts because i have a couple of cities i captured.

this way is fun and this game onl tok me about 30 mkins but likeoher gmes ta i hve played which take foreever:eek:

Well, I finished, too. Very early this time! :p

I used the no capital/only hut units system the first time ever in this GOTM after seeing Smashs and Chofritz´ achievements in the previous GOTM. So I tried it and it worked fine, although as Smash mentioned, it is not so much fun as "really" playing the game. I was done within 30 minutes.
But it seems I picked the wrong GOTM for a green star attempt, looks like everybody is doing this.
Well, anyway, nice different experience, but we really should have a no huts map on these low difficulties and smaller maps. ;)

We´ll see how it turns out.
:D

Sorry, I don´t tell my times/scores in a GOTM before the end.

It is also NOT recommended to do so, read the GOTM rules! :scan:

Just this, it was the earliest finished I myself have achieved so far, mainly because it was the first time I used this strategy!
:D

P.S.: Civman10,
i lost my last save in about 500 ad but i started again and got a conquest victory in 220 bc.
I hope for you that you made spelling mistake and that you did NOT play until 500AD the first time, then lost your savegame, RELOADED and in the second time finished 220BC.
THIS WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED!
So I really hope you mean you lost the 500BC savegame.
If not then you CANNOT submit you GOTM. NO RELOADING is allowed, even in this case. A few turns back if you lose a save is ok, but NOT changing your whole game.

I'm glad you were able to whip the game your second time aorund, but remember that you can't replay the game and submit the second attempt. You can submit your first attempt and replay this gotm as many times as you like though.

i will not be counting my save to gotm and stated this in an earlier post

where can u get other people's saves from previous gotms?

 You know, this is one of the few forums which actually reminds me of the good old times at CFC, when we were just a small community. Every newbie was welcommed and got attention...and that's coming back around here. :D

Also went for the no-city option, quite fun as it's so different (hats off to the bright boys that came up with this tactic).

Unfortunately only got archers and techs out of the first few, archers are tough but slow, split into two bands collecting other huts as they went - one found the Germans (thanks to their roving warrior unit) and knocked Berlin off, similarly a roving Persian settler helped locate Persopolis.

Got finished very early by my standards after founding a city via a hut and tracking down the Aztecs - would have closed out earlier but for their armour-plated settler who accounted for TWO archers, one a veteran, before I finally whupped him. Shame as it delayed my end by about 10-12 turns.

Won't score highly as other, better players have gone the same route. Still, it was a change.

Damn, now got to wait a month for the next GOTM (no, no I won't ask again :D )

I don't get this whole "no city" business. I always use goody-hut NON units in King games, but what does that have to do with a city? Did somebody let out a myth that goody huts will give units supported by your city? It's not true, because I've got a force of about 8 NON units which have conquered the globe, and I did it all while I had three or mor cities.
