Lee,if you have time why don't you swap with Greebly and me and get a turn set in before you leave for vacation. :)

1225 AD (0)
I dropped the luxury tax to 10%. Philadelphia needs 3 clowns. I switch it to building a theater.

1250 AD (1)
I met backwards and broke Rome.

I give Germany the bad news that we are at war. :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

I captured 2 workers along the German borders.

The assault on Cologne begins. I kill 1 landsknecht. (1-0)
The city is auto razed. I pillage $375.

I kill Germany: 1 knight. (2-0)
(IT) Wine from the Zulu goes up in price. It now costs horses and silver.
I kill Germany: 1 MDI. (3-0)
Carthage auto-razed Hanover.
Scandinavia completes their UW.

1275 AD (2)
I met Sweden. I ship them engineering and alchemy for $7,245.
I also met backwards and broke China.

The assault on Berlin begins. I kill 5 landsknechts, 1 enslaver and 1 crossbow. I lost: 4 knights and 1 missionary (to a 1 HP unit). (10-5)
I gained 1 worker.
Silk Road and a permanent source of silks are now ours.
I'm disappointed that I pillaged nothing. I suspect that Germany bought university.

The current price for university is too high. Hopefully someone else will learn it in the next turn or two.
(IT) I lost and enslaver. (10-6)

1300 AD (3)
The assault on Hamburg begins. I kill 2 landsknechts. I lost 5 knights. (12-11)
The city holds. :(

Scandinavia has plenty of cash again. I ship them gunpowder, navigation and sacred art for 12,985 and $95/T.

Our 50-turn run on naval guns failed. Lowlands has that tech.
(IT) I kill Germany: 1 crossbow. (13-11)

1310 AD (4)
The second assault on Hamburg begins. I kill 3 landsknechts, 1 crossbow and 1 bucket. I lost 2 knights. (18-13)
I gained Circus Maximus that will be obsolete soon. I found 1 worker inside.

I contact Poland. We met another broke civilization.

The assault on Koenigsberg begins. I kill 3 landsknechts. I lost 2 knights. (20-15).
I found 1 worker inside.

Scandinavia must be the tech leader on the other continent. They keep getting cash like crazy. I sold them renaissance for $5,004.
I bought university from Carthage for furs and $6,117.
I ship university to Sweden for $3,305 and $314/T.
I give the Dutch university and $7,655 for naval guns.
I started research on physics at max. It needs 7 turns.
I ship naval guns to Carthage for $9,362.
I ship naval guns to Spain for $3,982 and $16/T.
I gained cash and tech out of that deal. I'm very happy with it.

War weariness is already appearing. I up the luxury rate to 20%.
I kill Germany: 1 crossbow and 1 knight. (22-15)
(IT) ARGGG. Carthage beat us to the last prize of Leipzig.

1320 AD (5)
(IT) Sweden is building Holy City.

1330 AD (6)
Dallas is formed on the rubble from London.

1340 AD (7)
(IT) Carthage is building Jewish religious art.

1350 AD (8)
(IT) Poland is building Holy City.

1360 AD (9)
(IT) The next research project is clockworks.
Galileo's University started in New York. National Observatory is queued up after that. I want to take advantage of the Statue of Liberty giving extra commerce in that city.

1370 AD (10)
I contact Canada. They are another backwards and broke civilization.

A new settler just arrived. This is my proposed city site. It gains us a source of spices.

Do not sell physics until Galileo's University is one turn from completion. This will help keep us in the tech lead. WW is our #1 enemy in the variant. Tech edge will reduce losses and help manage WW.

The next war is Carthage. I'm want those Islamic wonders. That will add mosques that are double strength to our empire. With our WW issues, we need way more happy buildings than typical. We need time to build up troops to pull this off.

That was a quick war. :yup: We got some good towns. Great trading with the other continent.

After we learn Clockworks, I think we should study Bastion Fortifications so we can improve our troops. Also, it will give NYC a chance to complete the 2 wonders and build some "normal" buildings.
We should put an effort into finishing the 2 roads and 5 mines in New Orleans and rushing buildings there so it can help with the wonder building.

I think, Publishing Houses should be built before Administrative buildings.

That checks out right now, but I'll sometimes reverse that mid-to-late game when I'm developing higher-corruption cities. There are times when cutting corruption gives you more shields than building a shield booster.

Publishing Houses reduce corruption, add to culture, and give a 25% shield bonus. So for 100 shields you get the equivalent of an Administrative building, workshop, and monument which cost 120 shields to build.

:yup:

Did the Publishing House change between CCM versions recently? I don't remember it doing THAT much. Now I think I should be building Publishing House first thing basically everywhere.

Oh, usually they aren't available 'til mid-game. That makes a difference.

That is one of our advantages starting with Democracy.
The WW torture from the war with Britain is the negative.

I can't complain with being at 27 cities in 1370AD thanks to that monster wonder city know as New York.
I did get a laugh the SoL got built in the actual city it is in. ;)

Preturn: We were strong vs the Brittish and still struggled with WW. We are only average to the Berber so likely I won't try to go to war my turn. Builds look fine.

IBT: Berber landed units next to one of our cities. In the IBT I switched some builds to Knights in case it means war.

Spain and Berber are at war now which is good for us.

1380 AD: Settler in the Berber stack with def 2 units. Decide to take the chance of weakening Berber by trying to kill the two guards. We lose 1 Missionary, but gain 2 Monks and a Worker. Use one monk in Koenigsburg because it has 2 Berber Neighbors, so a higher culture seems worth while. Berlin is in a direct Culture race with Leipzig (1 square overlap in workable squares) so use the other monk there which puts us ahead (we own the square). Will rush culture buildings to keep it that way.

Make trades for Naval Guns to get our gpt ~200 -> 922. For Sweden, I also traded a bunch of resources as well to get 581 gpt. They had 902 gpt avail if we were willing to trade Physics.

Rushed some Universities including our capital.

IBT: Utica(Berber) completes Holy City.

An Xbow type unit is killed and a worker flees.

1390 AD: Capture worker that fled. It is a non-foreign worker so worth the loss of the xbow. Kill invisble unit responsible.
We can't get Clockwork in 1 so lower science to 30%.

1400 AD: Embassies for all civs so we know all the capitals.

1410 AD: Ballistics in 4 at 100% science for 5 attack (Joe mixed the b techs above). Going to try to maintain this, but requires more happy buildings and Entertainers for now.

1420 AD: Rushed a bunch. Most entertainers dealt with.

1430 AD: Rushing town clock in NY in the hopes it will be a turn sooner if shields is over 80 (74 now).

Met Arabia and traded Chivalry for Dye. We can trade Clockwork and Physics now. AI know Medicine and exploration separately
Not sure I remember Oceania either but nothing to trade there.

Trading time:
From Lowlands: Exploration and 1024 gold for Clockworks and Physics
From Berber: Medicine and 16310 gold for Clockworks Physics, Exploration.
From Sweden: 2982 gold and 456 gpt for Exploration and Physics
From Spain: 5662 gold and 331 gpt for Clockworks Physics, Exploration.

So the 3 of the 4 civs above are at tech parity. We still have Clockworks for Sweden.

Also traded Naval guns and lesser tech for a bit more gold.

Science at 80%. Get embassies. Oceania up ahead for one of our boats.

1440 AD: Rush some more Uni's in cities with decent science to keep up the 'tech every 4 turns'.

1450 AD: Upgrade both Defenders and Knights. I didn't notice the defenders earlier.
Start Juriprudence for Lawyers next.

1460 AD: Built Los Angeles in the spot mentioned by Lee.

1470 AD: We could trade for Spices with Japan. Instead I rushed an academy in Los Angeles to get Spices in 3 after border expansion.

Have been starting the replacement of Granary with Hospitals. Did not sell Granaries. I think we want to keep Temples even after they expire for the culture. At least that is how the wonders work.

Notes:
Didn't want to trade away Ballistics and give the Berber better attack units. We could keep an eye on the price they will pay to trade it before the AI gets it.

The yellow circle looks best to me.
LK174_AD1470a.png

These are both to grab the furs and to keep the AI from placing cities close to our important cities. Yellow now and red before the AI starts using boats to settle elsewhere. Both these cities become better with Dockyards for shields and planting of forests so worth starting. Red maybe in 3-4 settlers?
LK174_AD1470b.png

Concentrated on 4 turn tech over unit production. Soon our towns will have only units to produce and we will naturally become strong vs Berber. A initial limited war to weaken Berber is also reasonable - Berber is likely still at war with Spain (I don't remember peace treaty) so we could grab some cities and make peace when they respond strongly.
