US ratings are about 100 higher than FIDE ratings, other countries ratings vary, but they are all rather similar.
The only British player I ever played was a 195 grade, he had a 2150 FIDE and about 2150-2200 USCF at the time, we had a drawn game. He kicked my butt in 5 minute though
I was going to play a tournament in Pittsburgh this weekend but changed my mind. Good thing I didn't go, though, there's been a lot of bad weather around here. Probably a foot of snow in Pittsburgh, but where I'm at, it's all ice.
I'll probably play my next one March 1, tied for 1st in the last tournament I played, but I was the highest rated player

Yeah, that's pretty much what the Caro-Kann is (advance variation, anyway). Funny thing is I'll play this, but I despise the French defense I guess it's because the French you almost have to play c5 to get any kind of activity but in the Caro-Kann white is often attacking very early, so it's not so boring.
Funny but the advance variation against the Caro-Kann was popularised over here by Nigel Short. I played him when I was 18 and he was about 14. We used to live about 10 miles apart. Drew then which was a pretty good result for me because he was already heading to be a great player. I dont think I could draw with him now!
Yes, this position is similar to how Short might play it. I never have played any grandmasters in tournaments, played a couple of FMs (and lost badly). I lived near GM Kaidanov for a couple of years, took a few lessons and such. He beat me 4 games one day with 1 minute to my 4. I had rook for bishop in the last one and walked into mate lol. I have played some young kids in the larger tournaments here that have good potential. I end up playing a lot of 9-13 year olds in the under 2000 sections.
