You can have whichever color you like to start.

Man... They are scared of you.
1800 USCF is what... Elo 19-something-hundred? :crazyeye:

I used to play at 180+BCF / 2000 or so Elo a good few years ago. So I'll have a go. But away for a few days next week.

US ratings are about 100 higher than FIDE ratings, other countries ratings vary, but they are all rather similar.

The only British player I ever played was a 195 grade, he had a 2150 FIDE and about 2150-2200 USCF at the time, we had a drawn game. He kicked my butt in 5 minute though :)

Not expecting to kick anyones butt here. Been a while since I played any serious games at all.

I was going to play a tournament in Pittsburgh this weekend but changed my mind. Good thing I didn't go, though, there's been a lot of bad weather around here. Probably a foot of snow in Pittsburgh, but where I'm at, it's all ice.

I'll probably play my next one March 1, tied for 1st in the last tournament I played, but I was the highest rated player :)

Never did like playing Caro-kann games much!

Caro-Kann is right up there with the French in the annoys all White players category.

Yeah especially those who like to play against the sicilian!

So now we have more of a French defence position with black's problem bishop outside the pawn chain but losing a tempo with c6.

Yeah, that's pretty much what the Caro-Kann is (advance variation, anyway). Funny thing is I'll play this, but I despise the French defense :) I guess it's because the French you almost have to play c5 to get any kind of activity but in the Caro-Kann white is often attacking very early, so it's not so boring.

Funny but the advance variation against the Caro-Kann was popularised over here by Nigel Short. I played him when I was 18 and he was about 14. We used to live about 10 miles apart. Drew then which was a pretty good result for me because he was already heading to be a great player. I dont think I could draw with him now!

Yes, this position is similar to how Short might play it. I never have played any grandmasters in tournaments, played a couple of FMs (and lost badly). I lived near GM Kaidanov for a couple of years, took a few lessons and such. He beat me 4 games one day with 1 minute to my 4. :) I had rook for bishop in the last one and walked into mate lol. I have played some young kids in the larger tournaments here that have good potential. I end up playing a lot of 9-13 year olds in the under 2000 sections.
