I've read 1984 more times than I can count although this idea didn't hit me until I saw some of the great world maps. What about a scenario based on Orwel's classic, 1984? Three nations, Eurasia, Oceania, and East Asia control the entire world and they're always fighting against each other. This could be an awesomely cool mod. Unfortunately since I'm taking honors courses I have more homework than I ever could have fathomed but I'll be willing to work with someone as a 1984 expert.

I second this, as it was one of the first questions I asked here. I can't really help out too much with the mod, as my customization skills are limited (but improving!). I can say that it would be an excellent scenario, with loads of specialized units, and, um, repression of the little people. However, it might be challenging to come up with units and buildings that fit in with the theme, though this board seems to wreak with creativity. Victory conditions included in that, as the book describes the three nations working together in a twisted harmony.

A few ideas: The ministries have to be included, but not neccessarily as wonders. Advanced military units (infantry!), and a military police force would greatly set the tone of the scenario, but shouldn't be so overpowered that conquest is easy. Lastly, citizen specialists of the different levels of the party could be very cool.

And good luck with the homework! :crazyeye:

oh the possibilities...We have the world maps and I could probobly borrow someone's modern world map with cities on it and just rename them. That's about the limit of my customization skill.

well the book was written a couple of years after WW2 so unless orwell could see the future I don't think the units in the book would be advanced beyond WW2.

That's assuming O'Brien wasn't making the whole thing up... I'm still not entirely convinced that there were any other countries...

And also, even if there are, the whole point is to keep a war going with no conclusion... they wouldn't try to take each other over thereby making the scenario a moot point.

way to kill the scenario there dom, but I think this could work out, say in like a fall of rome way where any civ that loses 8 citys becomes eliminated or something like that.

Could work... maybe there should be some kind of Wonder motivation? Like the building of some kind of Wonder that will give them complete and absolute control over the population... I mean, they have effectively that, but it's not guaranteed... maybe something like mind control implants or something like that...

Shades of SMAC "Nerve Stapling" :) .

Re: winning and losing, if there were indeed three IngSoc-esque world powers, then -- given how exhaustively expensive such a state must be -- it's always possible one would simply collapse, leaving the remaining two no other choice than to pick/fight over it like vultures. After all, it wouldn't do to have free thinking arise again, now would it? ;)

Kind of like the War On Terror? And the eternal foe, Osama Bin Goldstein?

(Sorry I got political. It's just whenever I turn on Fox News, I think of Nineteen Eighty-Four.)

I get the same impression when I turn on the Disney Channel or MTV... *shrugs*

but 1984 the book places a perspective on the individual rather than whole nations and continents. isn't it a bit hard to do a whole global scenario because it comes from a completely different viewpoint than is possible because of the lack of info.
